Caps on tags in units, Wolves running rampant all across the state, Elk much harder to find (unless you see the few that are chased into town by the wolves), all this is really bugging me. What do you think would happen if we had a protest, (ie tea party)? What do you think would happen if we didn't buy elk tags fo a season, depriving the F&G of the income. Probably not much, but i rarely find elk anyway so it probably wouldnt matter much to me... :-)

I hope we do get a season this year but I am not going to hold my breath.

The problem is and has always been the fish and game. They could have argued that the existing wolves would have been killed off or bred to non-existence. But they took their orders and totally ignored the concerns and the legal responsibilities that they have as a department.
Now - it is argued we have a proposed season- well this is not a game hunt; this is a hunt to lower wolf numbers. The thing we need- is not hides on the wall; but lower wolf numbers.
So - why is the hunt set for the fall? Why are we not out there hunting them NOW?
Because the fish and game is playing with us; letting the anti hunters have more time to stop the hunt.
Deer have their young in the spring; and by fall they are - save bears - capable of making it on their own. Deer and elk 'flood' - they breed at the same time; and have their young at the same time to 'flood' the market so to speak. Bears have their young in dens in the winter.
Wolves breed year around; so why should we be not hunting them NOW ?
Yes the pelts will be nicer in the fall; but we are trying to lower their numbers - not just grace our walls.
This is a depredation hunt. Its going to be tough to kill wolves; and to make a short season in the fall - consider: the wolves are gobbling down game every day until then .... it's just plain stupidity in action.
If we can hunt them; then let the hunt begin.
