I just thought I would get this thread going again.

Here is a little update on how my fall bear hunt is going.

My in-laws purchased a cabin in my hunting area, after doing some scouting I discovered large bear scat (2"+) and large tracks (6"+-) within 200 yards of their cabin on a logging road.(Pic can be seen in POW WOW under "Est Size of Bear"). My brother-in-law dropped bait on Sunday in the area. We checked it last night with no luck. I find it usually takes the bears a week to ten days before they find a new site and start visiting it on a regular basis.

I am still baiting at the same site I was late last spring. It seems like the cows have moved out and should not be back. We also dropped bait at my site on Sunday and to my surprise it was already hit when we checked it last night. There was a 5 1/2" track at the site, so I am pretty optimistic about this fall.

How is everybody's fall bear hunts going?

Chris

Well, my fall bear season is not going as well as my brother-in-law's. He got this big bear in the front of the cabin on Monday night.

My bait hasn't been hit since last week, the cows have been in and out, I am thinking about moving back to my old bait site and using my current site as a spring only bait site. I am going to give it a few more days.

Nice looking bear, Chris. Congrats to your brother in law. Once, I had my butcher for my beefs take and bone both hind quarters on a bear that I shot and net them and made smoked ham out of them. MMMMMMMM tasty! Hot brats from the scrap meat and shanks is mighty fine also.

Hopefully, your success is waiting at the door. Best wishes for the hunting seasons that are afoot.
