dont sweat it Drew....youve killed the last 3 turkeys without a pop up blind with your longbow..... the next deer you shoot at will have a slit thru both lungs

Shot a button buck this morning. Thought it was a doe, but nobody will tell me not to be proud of him. My first with my new Black Widow and new shooting style. With the heat today I had to get him quartered and in the fridge. Deer heart and eggs for breakfast tomorrow. I've been using Joel Turner's shot sequence from MBB4 and it has made a huge difference in my shooting. I'm still working on applying that in hunting situations. Congrats to all that have posted their success thus far!

Congrats Flingblade ! Got out to new spot on local state land last night. Was not expecting much, full moon and 80 degree temps. Very quite as expected til around 7, 3 BIG does came off the ridge to my west, fed on acorns, and crossed at the fence break 12 yds in front of me. Touched anchor on two of them and let them pass, not sure I wanted to spend part of my combo tag yet, Have private ground to hunt [ doe permits for there] that heats up when the corn comes down. I will probably regret not shooting, but we'll see what happens when the weather cools a bit, weekend is looking good weather wise, won't hesitate to take a nice doe in Baldwin at end of month, Todd

This morning was beautiful with a gorgeous sunrise and a SE wind that was perfect for a stand on a farm I haven't hunted yet. At 7:55 I saw a small 8pt headed my way across the field. I was 20 yards inside a woods watching a scrape on the outside of the woods under an oak tree, and a heavy trail that passed by my stand at 10 yards. Unfortunately the buck had no desire to touch the scrape or take the trail next to it. When he hit the wood line he walked along the edge and started to enter the woods on the trail I made to get to my stand. He locked up and started smelling my tracks and a few seconds later he took a couple bounds back out into the field. A big doe came trotting across the field right up to the buck and they both looked back my way and decided to get out of dodge! An hour later I had a flock of turkeys come by just out of range and I really wanted to shoot the bearded hen that was in the bunch but she wouldn't cooperate. Great morning though!

Thanks guys! Here's the pic of the button buck I shot yesterday morning. Having to relearn photobucket as it has been awhile since I have had pictures to post. I was actually turkey hunting. Had my blind set up about 100 yards from some roosted birds. They never came my way but he did around 8 am and I had an extra antlerless tag. More deer came through a few minutes later but blew out of there when they saw the newly placed blind. 17 yard shot with 175 grain 4 blade tigershark. Sliced the edge of the heart but didn't open the chambers and neither lung. The blood trail was sparse like a muscle hit. He went about 80 yards. I too am looking forward to cooler temps and the new moon!

Hey Todd I am in the same boat as you, I passed on 3 different does and 1 small buck last night. Just for the record I did not pass up these oppurtunities because they where below my standards, normally I would have dropped any of the 4 deer I seen that night in a heart beat. However between the extreme heat, the location of my stand and the fact that we have seen 3 dandy bucks in the area with plenty of light left and early in the season I let them go.
I hope Jashu is not a prophet or if he is I hope he is a false one

Well, I had a nice buck "pass on me" this morning! I was sitting in the corn and all the sudden there was a buck standing in my only shooting lane. He was acting nervous and began to sneak off so I made one of my usual rookie mistakes...I tried to stand up and draw at the same time and I gave a little bleat to stop him from walking out of my shooting lane. Wrong answer! He quickly spun around and took 2 bounds back to the east and then slowly walked off into the corn. This was at 7:40am and at 8:45 he returned but this time he was in the woods feeding on acorns. Did I mention the the acorns that he was feeding on were falling from the tree that my ladder stand is in? I watched him feed off through the woods and then waited an hour before I decided to leave and head for home. I did find 5 new scrapes and several new rubs on my way out.
