Hey Y'all. I'm flying to Calgary on November 14th to Sheep hunt in Canmore for 15 days. I have backpack hunted twice in the last 2 years. Once in Alaska and once in Colorado.
I am really looking forward to it!!!!!! Any suggestions?
Thank You. Michael.

Hello Michael, Welcome to sunny Alberta!!!! Who are you hunting with? You can pretty much count on snow for sure but......... the saying here goes, if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes. If your'e lucky there will be bright sunny days and cold nights, could be very cold as well -15*C or more. You are coming during the height of the rut which will be to your advantage. Not sure if I am any help. Have a great hunt and keep us posted on how you make out. Regards. Bert. Posts: 736 | From: Alberta, Canada | Registered: Jan 2006

Michael, the canmore area is very small and cut up, I assume you're hunting with an outfitter so he'll know all about the boundaries. I've backpacked there since I was 16, a long time ago indeed!
Elevations are between 6,000 and 10,000 which aint as bad as some other areas. You'll see lots of hikers on the lower parts so smile and act like one of them...they have been known to interfere with a legal hunt. We have laws against that and if they do be sure to have them charged.
Very few rams are taken out of this zone but like Bert says you're going at the right time of the year.
If you've backpacked before you'll know the importance of keeping the weight of your pack as low as possible. There is lots of water available in the lower areas but not much up high unless it's snowed, which is pretty likely this time of year.
have fun!

Micheal, I have hunted Canmore for more years I want to remember, I have never had trouble with hikers interfering with my hunts, the time of year you are going to be there is perfect, all the hikers will be hanging around the coffee shop downtown. There are very good rams taken by outfitters and the general public every year, your chances are very good, timing is perfect and I wish you the very best. If you need any help with logistics please send me a PM. Regards. Bert.

Michael, Say hello to Flint for me, I have known him and his family for years, a better guide that knows the area you will not find. Hope you are in shape, Flint will run the "hills" with you for sure. Have a great hunt and good luck to you, might even see you up there as the trubl man has a ewe tag for the area. Regards. Bert.

Just got back from Canmore, saw 3 good rams in the bowzone. I had a ewe tag in the next zone, no ewes got shot. About 2" of snow up top.

That's a great ram! I wish I would have started applying for that tag, not sure there is any point now. I'll be on the wrong side of dirt by the time I get drawn!

6-8 years Randy, should start next year before you do get too old. Helped a guy load a ram in the parking lot at Pigeon Mtn last night, had to be in his mid to late 60's....food for thought, you can get 2 or 3 tags by then. He biked his ram out which made it even better. I felt like I could use a few less birthdays this morning. It was awesome.
