Rarely do I ever end up obtaining a bow (or much else for that matter) when I go to various shoots. Most of the time, if I do find something, it is usually priced way out of the range I'm willing to pay, or my negotiating skills fail to allow me to take it home.
The Baltimore shoot turned out differently.
John Carnahan (our own JCAR315) had a neat walnut bow rack with him. I liked the way that it looked and I figured one can always use another bow rack. So I grabbed it before it made it to the trade blanket.
It looks nice with a bunch of vintage Kodiaks:
I spied an old Kodiak a guy was carrying while trying to find a spot for his blanket and I pretty much stalked him until he found a good spot.....right next to Kathy (Killdeer). When he put the bow down, I picked it up and never put it down. I was fairly positive what it was and I had a quote from one of Wade Phillips' Kodiak threads in my head the entire time: "Bubinga is the rarest as I have only ever seen two with Bubinga sight windows." The bow had been refinished by the owner, but I seemed to recall something else that Wade had said: "Bubinga Sight Window - (I have only seen two, both are now refinished)". The owner lowered the price (without me countering an offer) and cash vacated my wallet. See if you can pick it out among its relatives:
While the now previous owner was getting me change, I looked and Rich Lopez (Droptine59) was standing next to me, eyeing my new prize. He confirmed what I pretty much knew I had in my hand....a 59 Kodiak with Bubinga Sight Window.
It's a candidate for a "re-refinish", but it shoots great for the time being. One neat thing: It's difficult to see in my lousy photos, but it appears to have thin lams of purpleheart between the riser and the maple. Had the bow not been sanded during the refinish, it probably would have blended right in after oxidation. Now it kind of jumps out at you at certain angles.
I also came home with a bow for my wife....a great little 62 Polar, 56" and 28#@24". It is a lovely little zebrawood bow and she shoots it very well....I believe it has found a permanent home.
And on top of the finds.....it was a great shoot. It was good to meet many of our fine members and the courses, as well as the settings, were great.

That bow is nice Tony. I too came home with a few I had been looking for ..never thought it would happen there. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn or several. Bravo on your finds.

Wow! Great looking collection. I really like that new 59', I have trouble putting it down! That Polar has some great looking wood in it.

I was lucky enough to find a somewhat early Howatt Hi-Speed that is a real beauty at BBTC also.

I saw that bows. It's the cats butt. I bought a "truley minty" 1965 Bear Cub in a rare 45 pounds. Gorgeous wood grain. I bought it to gift to my brother who was coming to BBTC the next day to shoot trad for the first time ever. 5 minutes after he showed up and i handed him the bow, he re-minded me that he is left handed. Doh!!!
My big purchase was a pair of Carl Dyer Mocs.
But the favorite thing I got was my Bear Archery cufflinks from Bearkeeper.

Don - with all the coin you've been raking in selling bows, we'll be mighty disappointed if you don't show up at Denton! I'll probably bring a few with me. I'm not much into selling....but I'm always open to interesting trades!
I'm hoping someone brings a nice A handle that I don't have to take out a mortgage on.

I seem to remember the Droptine crew making some nice scores!
Rich - that was a super purpleheart Howatt you grabbed at the blankets!
I recall an outrageous Border Black Douglas that Jim Raine had such a serious grip on.....that the bow ended up with finger grooves!!
It was great seeing and meeting all you folks at BBTC. Definitely a great place for trading, shooting, scenery, crazy times around the campfire and, lest I forget, burning bows!

Jim says..."aim low" and hands me an arrow.
So I aim low.....and still deflect his arrow off the top of the target....right into the woods!!!!
Smart thing......that dayglow pink fletching!
I don't think I've shot a Border that wasn't a rocket. The new carbon limbed bows are scary fast.
Super bow Jim (but don't let your wife talk you into to selling it to buy roses!)
