Went out this morning as I am working overnights this weekend and with "frankenstorm" coming our way I thought it might be a good morning. Little did I know what was about to unfold. It was slightly foggy on the mountain with little breeze. Just felt good to be in the woods again after a long week with a miserable cold.
Got in the stand about 45 minutes before light and just let things settle down. Squirrels were active and thought about taking a poke at a large fox squirrel that was near me but passed on him.
A couple minutes later I heard a slight rustling behind me and figured another squirrel but took a peek anyway. A large bodied deer was angling down me and although I didn't see antlers it was game on. Changed his angle and came in right into my sweet spot about 11 yards away. By the time he made it in front he was angled quartering away. I was alrady at full draw when he hesitated at a log and that is all I remember other than the slight thud of the bow. All that practice year round kicked in. Hit 2" in front of where I was looking but knew it was over for him. He jumped and ran about 20 yards and looked back like "what just happened" Then he moved again and I could see him pumping geysers ,went about 45 yards and saw his back end wobble and he just went over. What a morning-69th deer off this little 75 acre bow range.
