If you're drawing it to 45#, it's perfectly fine for whitetails, with the usual disclaimers: very sharp broadheads and properly tuned arrows so that they're flying straight. Many elk have been killed with bows in the mid-40's range.

Too light? No way Schnitzy. I hunted with 45#'s for years. Good sharp broadhead and decently heavy weight arrows are all you need. It's not about how much weight you can shoot. It's how much weight you can shoot accurately. Have fun!

I hunt whitetail, turkey and small game with a 45# recurve. I used 125 grain b'heads on 2117 shafts, in the past, but also mess around with woodies as well.
IMHO the biggest factors to successful hunting are:
Be still. You'd be surprised at how close an animal will get to you if you are patient. Getting busted because the wind changed direction happens, but that's part of the fun.
Accuracy. You need to be able to hit the spot. With my set up, I am confident that out to 20 yards, I will hit what I'm pointing at. I practise longer shots (up to 100 yards) for fun. But every shot I've taken in a hunting situation has been 20 yards or less.

Took my deer this year using a 40#@28 62" J D Berry longbow, it was the third deer I have taken with this bow. So 45#, oh yea plenty. I use this bow becuase I'm able to draw it back smoothly, hold, and hit the spot. Meat in the freezer.

45lbs is a pretty wimpy bow.Your arrows will probably bounce off the side of a deer.I hunt with man weight bows myself.I shoot 46lb bows so no one calls mine a girly bow. I like arrows in the 450 to 500gn weight range and shoot Simmons broadheads. No problems as far as I can hit them.

How Long is your draw? If the bow is 45 at 28 and you draw 27 or more you should have no problems with a 10grn. or more per lb arrow.

I am shooting a 47#er now. Ain't killed anything with it and am still tuning it but it sure is fun to shot. I think 40# and up is enough for most whitetails. Just look at a few copies of TBM they have women and kids all the time in there killing stuff with that weight and alot shorter draw lengths. BERRY LONGBOWS RULE!! My favorite bow up until recently was a used LH PIT Viper I bought second hand. But it's developed a crack down the back of the riser and I'm afraid to shot it now. But it was great while it lasted. Really love the nocks and the way it drawed.

Magnus Stingers fly real nice and quiet. I'm surprised those Bemans fly so good.
