Now, I'm wondering, since I can't shoot from a butt-sitting position, and don't have the money for a ground blind, has anyone ever hunted turkeys out of a tree stand?? If not, why not? It's all done seemingly from a ground blind position.

Believe it or not, it is not legal in Alabama to shoot turkeys from a treestand. Also, if you think they can pick you out on the ground, they'll nail you everytime in a treestand.

Good luck...blink your eye in a treestand and their gone. You've got a much better chance on the ground..blind or no blind.

Missed one this fall, and had then had others litterally under my stand numerous times - just never able to get at them. That is fall when they are just plain stupid. Can't imaging that working in spring. Like others have said, just blink an eye and they are gone.

I am not sure what kind of birds you have in Calif. Maybe Merriams? I have shot a few Merriams out of tree stands. The hens are always easier to get away with it than toms. If you built a big enough blind in the tree I think you could pull it off on any Gobblers. Like a popup in the sky. I have gotten shots from the standing position on the ground also, using tree's for cover. Or my knees which is the same as standing, body position wise. G-luck

The only thing I know of harder than shooting a turkey with a bow without a blind is shooting one out of a treestand. I wouldn't waist the time. Get on the ground.

I have taken two from a stand in the fall here in NY. Very hard to draw without getting pegged. If you do go the tree stand route, I would suggest camo burlap all the way around you to mask some movement. Good luck either way.

I have taken a couple from stands in the Fall, but none in the Spring. I like to move around too much and check out different areas.

I have taken at least 7 from treestands in the fall. All while deer hunting. 5 were with Trad gear and 2 with wheels. I do not believe it is that hard, just have to pay close attention to their demeanor. 4 were good Toms. I believe Toms are easer as there is not to many birds together when they come thru the woods. For thousands of year turkeys have been looking for predators from above. In fact have you ever noticed where their eyes are located. Dig a hole!!!

I drew on a hen looking right in my direction from a fairly low treestand last fall and was so surprised I got it back, I completely muffed the shot! LOL! I think it can be done or you could just build some blinds from natural materials.
