Hello from North Dakota; dry, windy, & cool!

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience, good or bad, with the Tred Barta longbow?

I was also wondering about the Bighorn line of recurves and longbows? I don't see much written about them.

Just curious as I'm getting closer to purchasing a new or "new to me" bow!

The Barta bow sure looks lots like a Bear Montana.

Two guys took a bow hunter ed course I taught had Barta bows. They look and feel overbuilt and both were braced at about 5-1/2"... well below what they should have been. They told me those were the strings that came on 'em? I wasn't impressed. There are better options available IMO.

With a brace of 61/4'' the one I shot was not bad. I am not so sure about birch as a limb material. I prefer bamboo and yew.

I believe the Barta bow is made by Martin and is a 'remake' of the Martin Bushmaster, that was discontinued. From what I have heard/read--the Barta bow is not too bad for the money. For input on what people that have shot them think-go to the 3 Rivers website and read the reviews listed under the bow. Also 3 Rivers is great to deal with and will let you return a bow if you do not like it. No better to way to draw your conclusion than shooting one yourself.

The Barta Bow is a similar design as the Savannah, (as I am told it is built by Martin) but does not perform near to what the Savannah does. Not very quick, is smooth to draw but has bulky limb tips causing some hand shock. The Barta is more of the flat bow design type bow. I feel it is over priced, paying for the name on the bow.
IMO for the same amount of money you can find bows with more to offer.
