Check out Joe Wheeler WMA for bowhunting. Haven't been there in years but was good then. Some of the Alabama guys will give you more info.

you will be only about an hour away from black warrior management area which has a good bit of hogs. i would hunt the wilderness area part of the management area. been a lot of hogs killed this season. it is rough terrain but they are there.

havent heard of anyone killing any hogs on wheeler this year. heard they hired snipers to come in and eradicate them after hunting season last year. just what i heard.

hope this helps. jim

I hunted the Oakmulgee mgt area near Tuscaloosa. Good # of hogs there - ALL the old timers woudl tell us to get near the open green fields to get on them. Not sure if where you are going has any or not.
best of luck.

wheeler still has hogs. the biologist gave me a map of all the areas he had reported crop damage this season...and its ALOT! the hogs are just alot more spooky and dont stay in one area very long. i have seen more small groups this season than before when i would see groups of 8-10. there were lots of rumors about snipers, disease, and hired hunters but the only part that is true is that the game officials did trap quite a few.

although, you can only hunt them during deer season. i have written permission to hog hunt alot of the surrounding farmland that is seeing damage from hogs. let me know bud!

I agree bring that thermacell and make sure you have extra gas and cartridges with it at ALL times,,,, with mine in SC 2 seconds after the gas ran out it must of looked like a scene out of the movie attack of the Killer bees if you could of saw it.

Wow. It sounds like there is a lot of public hunting in Alabama.

Can you bait hogs on those WMA's?

no baiting on WMAs or on private lands, unless you can get approval from the game&fish department. and thats only for private lands. but trust me all land owners want them gone. thats why its easy to get permission on the private lands surrounding the WMAs.
