Wannabe1, you live near some great nutria hunting. I bet if you asked around on the grass farms you could get some permission to hunt them. When you do, call me and I'll help by showing you all I know...

Stan, when I lived in Louisiana, they hunted Nutra Rats and ate them. Just couldn't bring myself to eat one but, I sure killed a lot of 'em with a .22. They are a nuisance to the farmers.
What's the law on hunting them here in Oregon? Just a hunting license? What do you do with the fur afterwords?

Yup, just a hunting license and you can hunt them year-round. They are a pest and you can probably get permission from most anybody that you ask. We usually skin them, but don't eat them unless they come from somewhere other than a golf course. Crock pot them and they are really pretty good. I have used the fur to tie flies with before, it's really not bad, but not that great either. You can contact Oregon Trappers Association at www.oregonta.org for information on selling the furs.
I'll warn you now though, once you get started after them, you are going to get addicted
You can also get a furtakers license in Oregon and hunt raccoons from Nov. 15th to March 15th. It's a hoot as well. Might be a little late for this year, but definitely worth it for next season. You don't have to get a license that would allow you to trap, there is a hunting only version available.

You guys are killing me! I'm out of a bow right now and in the market for a new one. Every time I think I have made up my mind on what I want, these Hill bows keep jumping back at me...

Stan, thanks a whole lot for the info. I've got a friend that has a 118 acre ranch outside of Crabtree, OR, and I called him to see what he knew about the nutria. Well, it turns out he has a little pond and they are a nuisance to him so, he is going to clear it with his wife, and allow me to come out and help take care of the problem.
Should I hunt them with broad heads or game heads? I've got some Ace Hex heads that are 175gr and they put a smacking on stumps. Will those work?

What's your setup? I shoot them with our Talons because they have a little better cutting blade than most game heads. That being said with my new 40# Hill style bow, I shoot broadheads. Nutria aren't really tough or thick skinned, and a 175 grain Hex out of a 50# + pound bow ought to be good medicine with good shot placement.

Setup is a 68", 51# @ 29" HH Tembo. AD Trad Lites cut 29.5 b.o.p. with 175 gr up front. I'm still waiting on my friend to get back with me but, looks like a found me some game to hunt!
