After a fifteen year hiatus for competitive compound archery I’m back into traditional archery with a longbow, so much has change that I’m having to ask questions about the discipline.
I’ve made my own strings for many years and have the necessary jigs and the skills to make both the Flemish Twist and the Continuous Loop strings, so my question is which do you prefer on the longbow?
I think the Flemish Twist is a bit more traditional but the Continuous Loop is a bit stronger so I’m torn between the two choices.
What say you...???

A flemish twist on a longbow can be quieter then a endless loop. Most of my endless loop strings I make for my bows are dacron.I use these on a couple of older vintage recurves.I made a couple of endless low stretch strings for a couple of longbows, they did seem louder. It can be more of a personal preference. You can more easily adjust brace height with a flemish twist.I make both for my bows but just prefer a flemish twist low stretch string for my longbows and endless dacron on my older recurves.

I don't think that a continuous loop is necessarily stronger. Many say that the Flemish is, but I think the strength issue is immaterial anyway given the tensile strength of modern materials (including dacron).

Mike good to see ya over here from Archery Talk. I seem to have my best luck with flemish twist on recurves and endless loops on longbows. Flemish seems quiter on recurves. I use B55 and it works very well. You taught me so much over the years on compounds, THANKS
pick whatever bowstring type aesthetically works best for ya.
however, imo, what does matter is the fiber used. if yer bow can handle hmpe (dyneema, vectran, spectra, etc), that fiber type will be much more consistent than polyester (dacron)

Hey Chuck, good to see you... And it's good to be back in traditional after so long.. I got rid of all my compounds. I always said that when compounds were no fun to shoot, I'd go back to trad and that time has come..

I've used both on my longbows and as already stated don't see any difference between them.

Personally prefer flemish on LB and endless on recurve.
It's doesn't seem to matter too much. Just decide which one you like.
I'm having fun figuiring out how to make multi-color flemish. Two color is easy, but 3 color is a little more cumbersome. It's just my lack of dexterity.
One real advantage of flemish is more padding at the string nocks. But if you need that, you can easily add padding to an endless.

I personally like the look of the flemish and try to blend the multi colors with the bow. To me it just look good. Your Choice!

You don't have to make every strand of each bundle all one color. If you make a 2 bundle 14 strand string, just use 2 or 3 colors to make the seven strands in the bundle. You still get the 3 colors and I like it better than solid color bundles.
