The wife and I were camping near Ft. Davis, and saw lots of hogs during mid day from the road, which got me to thinking that there should be some places to bowhunt in the area. Anyone have any experience in hunting the Ft. Davis, Marfa, Alpine area? This sow with several piglets was seen from the highway in mid afternoon, and we saw lots more, in fact we had a pig steal some donuts from our campsite!

We used to hunt hogs and javies about 15 miles west of Ft. Davis but that was about 7 years ago. There were decent numbers of hogs so it's probably crawling with them now. Not a lot of javies though. Land owner decided not to lease it any more so we haven't been back. Don't know of any other hunting options out that way. If you can get in the mountain area it's really nice. Our cabin was in the 5000-6000 foot elevation range. Sure was a nice change from south Texas pig hunting.

Bowmag,
Thanks for the response. We did see some javies in the area, too. Sure looks like a great place to hunt if any of the ranches allow it. Anybody else?

There are Javi and Mule deer draw hunts at Big Bend (state park) which is about 300K acres. Those are compartment hunts where, if selected, you and your buddies are allocated a compartment of about 5K-6K acres. The hunts are run by TPWD. Many of the TPWD hunts allow you to shoot feral hogs along with the drawn species.

Unfortunately there is no hunting allowed at Big Bend national park.

Abundant hogs and javelina in the Ft Davis area. Hard part is finding someone who will let you hunt them.
