I can not remember what others have commented on befroe regarding vanilla as a curiousity scent. Is there a difference between say Watkins double strength vanilla extract and vanilla (non extract?) I am thinking of using this for deer hunting.

Bob.

I think I may try it just to see what happens. I'm going to place it maybe 50 yards up wind. I've been dealing with a pinched nerve in my neck and bow arm so I'm not hunting, but I'm taking the HD camera out into the woods to see what I can see.

I use vanilla flavoring . Its cheaper than extract and for this purpose it works just as well . I put 2 oz in a qt spray bottle that I bought at the farm supply for 75 cents. Fill the rest of the bottle with well or distilled water and spray down with it before you go out .

It seems to help at times. But ALWAYS play the wind

The first day of va. Season my son and I had a 6 pointer come within 25 yds. Of us sniffing the air. We had vanilla extract (imitation $1.00 stuff) mixed 50-50 with water sprayed on some branches. My son being 11 was piddling around not paying attention and by the time I got him ready the deer left but yes, give it a try...it works!

well....let's go let the air out'a one!

Didn't know. I tried out that Buck Juice stuff on a stump a couple of years ago (didn't work/no photos) and I remember it smelling like the cheap vanilla flavoring.

I put some vanilla extract on my boots and about 30 minutes later I had some fat kid follow my tracks right to my stand!

We have been using Vanilla for 25yrs and it works!! [thumbsup]

We use the real stuff from Mexico but the cheap stuff works too. Some friends pick it up for us when they go down there on vacation every few years and it's cheap.

Do you use it primarily as a cover scent or does it work as a scent wafer/rag hanging on a branch?

I got my first bowkill buck by putting some on a cottonball and hangin' it on a sapling about 4' high. When he stopped to sniff it he knocked it to the ground. When he put his head down to sniff it again I drew and released. [bigsmyl]
