Hi,

I have a bacote bow on order.

Thinking about trying to stain my arrows to try to match the colors.

I know I can't match the grain pattern.

I have a couple ideas on how to do it, but I don't have the bow yet to try to color match.

Just curious if any of you have tried to and how it turned out?

Pics would be great... [Roll Eyes]

Thanks [thumbsup]

When you get the bow, take it to Pontiac Paint Co. they will match it for you. It is on the South West corner of Woodward and M-59. I have gone there with many a project and they were always able to pull me thru it.

I did once, but dont have pics. But what I did was used ash shafts, which have a fairly open grain. I stained them with golden oak, then put a thin coat of urethane on them and let dry. The finish soaked into the pores and left the grain pockets open, even tough the shaft was sealed. I then took dark walnut paste wipe on stain and wiped the shaft down with it. Then took a rag just slightly damp with mineral spirits and wiped the stain off the shaft. The dark paste stain remained in the open grain while the outer shaft was back to the golden oak color. Let dry for several days then finished with a few coats of clear urethane. Came out pretty good! Light golden shafts with dark bocote like grain.
