I'm moving to the Sparta/La Crosse WI area this spring. Are any of you from the area? I'm hoping to find some good people to shoot/hunt with. It looks like a nice area, and this displaced Mainer is ready for a real winter.

There are several members and lurkers living in and around that area. Wish I did.
It is a beautiful area with lots of public access areas to hunt and fish. Lotsa deer and turkeys and even bear, wolf and cougar, although the DNR will deny it vehemently. Can't hunt the latter critters, not there at least.
There will likely be a trad shoot again this spring, probably pretty early spring, at the Sparta Sportmans club. Also look at joining the Wisconsin Traditional Archers, the State entity.

Josh - We live about a half hour south of La Crosse and Sparta. It's some beautiful country! Sparta is having a traditional shoot on the weekend of April 28th if you're in the area by then. -Jay

Dwyer Longbows are made in nearby Holmen, and I think RER bows are near there also.

Yep, lots of Trad Gangers around. The Sparta shoot is one of the first of the season, and a good one. During the summer you'll find plenty of traditional only shoots all around the state. As Chuck mentioned, join Wisconsin Tradtional Archers and get to some of the shoots - you'll find plenty of new friends!

Welcome to Wisconsin. Joe beat me to it, but I will say it again anyway. Join the Wisconsin Traditional Archers. We have a forum here on TG (Wisconsin). I hope to see you at some shoots this summer.

Thanks guys, I woke up this morning to see if anyone had posted and never thought that I'd have this many responses. I won't be there in time for the April shoot, but I'll definitely join Wisconsin Traditional Archers. I look forward to meeting all of you almost as much as I look forward to getting out of the Northern VA/DC mess and get back to some real country living. Thanks for the heads up youngarcher1, I'll start putting a little aside each week so the boss doesn't notice!
