I think we are in for a bad year, when it comes to bugs and such.

Due to the light winter we never stopped finding them here in Southern Iowa

Tick season never really ended in FL. I'm not sure summer did either. It's been around 80 since november. It is definitely going to be a buggy year.

Thanks for your info. I have been useing Musk Oil applied very lightly around my coller, wrists and ankles wearing long pants and sleeves. I try to shy away from much of anything that is toxic but this seems to work. That and a visual inspection from others. The plasic tweezers and pulling lightly makes sense.
Appreciate It Very Much!!!

Every time we come inside, my wife and I do a thorough job of searching each other...then we run outside and pick up a couple more. [bigsmyl]

Ahhh,Geezer...the family that picks tics together, stays together! LOL

That's keeping the romance in the relationship, brother!

Larry, not MY information, but the LYME association has some really good stuff... Google it.

Permanone seems non-toxic if you follow directions, which I confess I've failed on occassion to let wetted garments dry thorougly.

Lyme Disease .org
Lots of very solid info here. Amazing how prevalent it is in my area and how much of an issue it could truly be.
Thanks Again Dave
Appreciate the Direction....

Just got home from Missouri - did some mushroom hunting with a friend. So far I've pulled at least 10 seed ticks that were embedded. Almost rather have the bigger ticks just because they are easier to see!!

I just dragged two of my "beater bows" out back for a shooting session before dark. I got back inside and while surfing the forum I felt something crawling up the inside of my pants leg. [Eek!]

Yeppers.......first tick of the year is now swimming in boiled water down our kitchen sink drain. [Big Grin]

Like someone else already said, I fear it's gonna be a bad year for bugs. I can hardly wait till the skeeters get out in full force. [scared]

I have had both chiggers and ticks in me starting about 3 weeks ago. My neck of the woods is loaded with both. I have had so many ticks in me I can't believe I haven't had Lymes disease.

The chiggers used to be the worst for me, but I guess since I have been down here long I have built up an immunity. They used to kill me for 6 months, now after a couple of days I forget about them.

You can spray with Permanone (permethrin), or you can buy clothes from Gamehide. I bought pants and shirts last year and have not had a tick while wearing them. The fabric is impregnated with permethrin and is claimed to be good through 70 washings. We'll see.

I have no interest in the company, but thought I would pass along the information. The stuff is pricey ($70 for pants, $50 for ls tee). It's worth it to me, because I'm out with the dog twice every day.

BTW, I'm told you can freeze ticks for an indefinite period and they will survive. My entomologist hunting partner says there is always some species of tick active, regardless of the season.

They are absolutely terrible around here and have been for two months. I mix 2 tablespoons of DurationTM Permethrin 10% Concentrate with 15oz. of water. Spray my clothes and forget about ticks and chiggers.

Got into some turkey hunting last weekend with my 5 year old. Thought we escaped with getting any latched on but a couple days later my wife found one right at the crown of his hair on top of his head. She was worried that he would get upset when he realized what was going on during removal. I just said "Hey buddy, one of those ticks got attached to you on your head so I'm pulling it out."

"Ok"

Pulled him out, showed it to him and he was back to playing without really much thought.
