I had my first elk hunt in '06 and my second one last year. My best recomemdation is to have fun and enjoy your hunt in the high country.

That sounds like fun! Last year was the first year I was able to go backpacking for elk in Colorado with my son (JJB on here), and we had a blast! No elk in the freezer, but had some close encounters that I'll always remember. I was just telling Jay last weekend that when it gets to be the end of August I'll probably have withdrawal for not being able to go this year! Good luck!

Great stuff, I fulfilled that exact dream in 2009. 12 days with some good trad buds in the CO mountains. Although unsuccessful it was a fantastic experience. Don't forget to buy a small game license. Lots of tasty grouse sitting around to shoot at.
What state?
