As a Traditional Bowhunter it's easy for me to count my blessings when things go right for me, this is also true for everyday life. As a Christ Follower though I believe that Everyday I get to wake up and live is a blessing from my Creator!!!! Not always so easy to live out when things are not going your way but I know in my heart for it to be true!

This tale is about those times it's easy to count your Blessings.....

As Bowhunters there are things that bring a smiles to our faces, a bloody arrow stuck in the ground

 -

Sunshine making the fall colors explode!

 -

A couple of small raccoons that were already occupying the clump of trees you were wanting to put your stand in...
(Imagine my surprise when after I set the stand and sat down, there looking at me from about three feet away where these two guys)
I about jumped out of the stand!!!!

 -

I decided to pick a different tree!

There are the heart stopping rubs that you find in your hunting spot that will bring a grin to your face!

 -

Deer so close you can spit on them...

 -

A buck coming into your decoy just perfect!

 -

A fawn nursing just a few feet from your hide...

 -

There's beautiful sunrises that never got old!!!!

There's family you get to share it with!

 -

Taking advantage of a coyote not paying attention!

 -

Watching a buck investigate the grunts you made

Now I'm a guy that loves Iowa in the fall and October is my month, God created me this way but it seams a shame to condense all that October has to offer into 31 days. Just sayin, it keeps us hungry for more of what God has for us I guess!

So, try as I might I'm always sad to see it go, especially with my buck tag still in my pocket....
I know that probably sounds strange but there is a clock that starts in my head come November.
As long as its October I feel like I can take the bow season as it comes, come November, I know that fall is coming to an end and it's like as each day/hunt that passes by that I'm one day closer to missing out.... Its the blessing of that sacred rut hunt where everything comes together and a buck comes into your setup just like you've planed!

This is my 10th year hunting with Trad gear and one of the main reasons for seaking out Traditional Bowhunting is because I was seeking something more fulfilling! I had grown up fallowing along with the mainstream Bowhunting lifestyle, my favorite pastime became a time that connected happiness with success. I felt the rot of that culture creeping in on me and I knew it wasn't for me, I suppose there is still threads of that remaining in me.....

I also have a Blessing at home that is gracious beyond what I deserve and although she rarely gives me the red light to go hunting, it contributes to the clock in my head come November.....

I've also been paying attention to the moon cycle this year and how it correlates to the timing of deer moving i.e. When the moon is overhead or underfoot and when those times lineup with the morning and or evening hunts.

Tuesday morning the 14th looked like the a.m. hunt should result in high deer activity so I put a plan in place to hunt a funnel stand that I'd been waiting to hunt since last fall!

This is the graph for Tuesday from usprimtime.com
