I've been playing around with a thumb ring off and on for about a year & enjoy shooting with the thumb release. So far, I've only used it on light-draw bows. I also spend a fair amount of time shooting right and left handed. So it has me thinking about buying a short Asiatic recurve, like a turkish or hungarian style bow. But there are very few English-speaking resources online for learning this style of shooting in more detail or for comparing different products.

Is there anybody on the board with experience with these short, ambidextrous recurves? I'm curious about the differences between the fiberglass & wood laminated bows, siyah lengths and how all that affects how it shoots and holds up to weather. I'm also curious how they handle in the field -- whether it would be a range-only kind of bow or if anybody uses these for hunting. And other than the cut-in shelf, is there any appreciable difference between the Asiatic recurves and something like the Bear Kodiak Magnum?

All thoughts are welcome.

Try getting up with Lukas Novotny at Saluki Bow Company. He builds the sort of bow you're asking about.

Look for mounted archery enthusiasts like MA3 and horsearchery.us as they have a lot of information. I'd avoid the cheap fiberglass bows wrapped in leather, long siyahs feel weird in the hand and balance especially if you're used to traditional hunting bows. I don't want to promote non sponsors of tradgang but there are a few USA companies making Horsebows so no need to order from Hungary or overseas

I was looking at Alibow. Any idea how they compare to other bows, like the Samick SKB/Mind or other entry-level bows?
