Am headin to RSA in just one month to hunt with Choronga Safaris. Will be shootin a 65 pound 60 inch centaur bow with nugent gold tips brass inserts and centaurs big game head. The broadheads are single beveled 170 grain heads with a 125 grain steel broadhead adapter for a total arrow weight of about 640 grains. This will be my first trip to Africa, any helpful hints or suggestions???

Practice shooting through small openings, 4-6 inches wide by 12 to 18 inches tall. Sitting in a dark blind looking out a little opening can mess with your depth perception. Also remember that you will be shooting uphill from a pit blind at anything bigger than an Impala and less than 20 yards away, this is different from what most people are used to and you have to adjust your point of aim. Try to shoot directly above the front leg on broadside shots, if you shoot behind the shoulder crease like is normal for here you will be in the guts. Your setup will be more than adequate, you made a good choice in broadheads. I believe wider is better in Africa and if your arrow makes it to the far side ribs that is all you need. Quiet your bow down as much as you can. Take a journal and put in entries daily, it helps pass time in the blind and it is really helpful after you return home to jog your memory. Take a lot of picutres and a video camera in the blind is very nice to. You can reavue your shots in slow motion and verify arrow placement and it is nice to have your own hunting video. It was fun and thanks. Wide broadheads saved me on a couple of those shots.

Keep a daily log, and do a small video clip of yourself every few hours detailing what's going on and how you feel/think. When yo get home you'll love those short videos more than anything. I do that and it always amazes me how it brings that hunt back to life.
I've got lots of other tips but I don't want to take away from what I wrote above because I think it's "big medicine"

Get a book on Birds of South Africa. The bird life is incredible and even if you are not a Birder, identifying all the species you see is a great way to pass the time in the blind. Don't forget a good pair of binoculars.
