That is true Ben and as it is said...no one has ever hunted who has not lost an animal. Again it just hi lights how tough African animals are, even when hit well...if its not perfect then it just won't do.

Here is a pic of me and my Tracker Thomas on a very chilly African morning... it was -2C just as the sun broke for the day...brrrrr!

 -

This morning we opted to try our luck at a new blind and and wait to see if a good Gembok would come in as I've always wanted to hunt Gemsbok. We waited till lunch then just before we planned to move out this happened...

 -

I hit this fella right in the sweet spot this time and my arrow blew through both shoulders. He took off at a run and was piled up about 60m from where I hit him...and... bled less than the first Hog that I hit and lost! Work that out?!

With the 'Hero' pics taken it was back to the camp for a lunch time meal and maybe a little snoze.

That afternoon it was back to the same blind again in search of Gemsbok. But...alas, I could not pass up another Warthog...

I would have liked to have hunted Kudu, Gemsbok and even a good blue wilderbest but due to only having 6 full days hunting and the quality of ethics on hand where we hunted not everything is a given and thats why I'll be returning in 2015. But longer this time!

Thanks guys for the kind comments. I am missing Africa already...

Awesome pigs, mate! And good luck on your return! How did the other guys do (maybe PM me if it involves talking about their rifle hunts)? How were kudu numbers on the property?

Yes Bill but I did not really feel the need to drop the string on one for a number of reasons. Partly due holding out for a ice Gemsbok or Kudu.

As for my Steenbok... The PH said he would go Gold Medal in the Namibian record books with 4 1/2 inch horns but he could have had 2 inch horns for all that it mattered as these guys are so hard to hunt on foot as they are way down the food change as even large eagles pray on them so stalking them is rather difficult.

Good for you, Al. Good hunting, and good shooting on your part. Glad to see you finally made it over there. I know you have been planning an African safari for a long time. The first one is always very special, but subsequent ones are wonderful too.
