Hello to all, I'm just getting back into hunting after several year hiatus. I own only one bow, a 70's era supermagnum 48 that I bought at a thrift store 30 years ago. I shot a friends longbow a few times and wow, switching up from that short recurve was quite an experience. I went to Cabela's and shot both a Montana and an L-100, both in 50#. I have to say the general appearance of the Martin was far superior to the Bear. Nether of them had a significant hand shock, and I was shooting nice groups with both right off the bat. But the Bear (and I looked at 4 of them, had sections on the limbs where the edges were not parallel (trapezoidal rather than rectangular) and the logo's on two of them actually ran off the limb. The grip actually had sharp edges under the one piece leather that was wrapped and glued around it. I picked up a supermagnum 48 and it was no where near as well finished (nor as attractive) as my 40 year old one. For $349, I expected more from the Bear. The Martin was $219, wish now I had bought it. I would love to have one of the beautiful custom bows advertised here, but just don't have the cash.

I've been told the L-100 is imported and made by Ragim in Italy. They call it the Fox Custom. The Fox is the same design w black glass and different riser wood. They make similar 68" bows called the Wolf and Wolf Custom. Shop around and you can find all four of them for around $170 - 200.

Just a quick followup, I saved my coin and went shopping again. Shot several longbows, and found a bear montana that was really finished well. Despite my earlier experience and observation, bought the 55# that I shot. Anxious to tune it and see what it will really do.
