Yeh, Rick, I knew that The Ferret Bow was her Latest love and was sent to Kathy at her directions. They'll meet up again at ATAR. Yes, also, Frank's bow (I wish he had signed it) is definitely straight and strong shooting and certainly does not look like it is two years old. A testement to how Barb treated it. You can tell by the pad it's seen a lot of arrows passing by.

I too traded with her obtaining a quiver for a bunch of cow tooling leather sides I had and new she could use and enjoy. She too told me she got the better of the deal and the quiver I got is the brown lakota with the white fringe. I hangs with my bows now. I am left handed and it was right handed and I just wanted it for a display. When I mentioned it she wanted to make another left handed but I liked what I had. I also traded her a bunch of skins..beaver, fox, a really huge winter furred coyote for a spotting scope I use with my 35 mm camera now for wildlife photos. She said she thought I gave her enough in the first deal but she got the skins nonetheless. I was hoping she would use the coyote for herself as it wass a beauty.
I alo remember the time somebody must have wronged her on the trading post because she was going to leave us for awhile but we all came tothe rescue and called her back. Glad we convinced her because she certainly kept this tradgang exciting. Great memories or as we say blessings for us along the way.
Knowing she talked about coming up north for our bunny hunt I probably will carry her quiver on the hunt and I still have my arrow hoping to get something to honor it but I think I just might leave it in a rabbit patch in Selkirk with the bunnies for her................Mac~

I enjoyed her very much and hoped one day to meet her in person. I'm sure it would have been a kick to go stump shooting with her. I still go back and read her old correspondence and look at the pictures of her craftwork. I have the giant Bowie that Loyd made for her and the handmade sheath that she made to go with it. There's one of my self arrows with a note to her inscribed on it in the top of a giant Doug Fir that overlooks one of my favorite spots in the Cascade range. She'll always be missed but never forgotten.

Bernie, I don't have the Ferret bow, LOL, but that would be a treasure! I have a stone-gorgeous BBO made by Dan Casey. Barb willed it to me. It is going to the squirrel hunt this weekend, along with two dozen new hex-headed arras made by Mike Fletcher, the man who made the Red Arrows.

Gee, I did get confused there, didn't I? I would have sworn that was the bow she willed you - but, like Rick and you (and others too in varrying degrees, I'm sure), I wasn't in the best of shape those days.

I remember when I was notified of Barbs passing on to the the Spirit World, I was very saddend with a heavy heart. I just so happened to pick up the bow quiver last nite and remembering her and the rest of the tradgangers enjoying each others anatics. I shot a doe, 1st kill of the season for an elder woman this year and thought of Barb while giving thanks to the Creator for this animal who also gave life so that another person may live to give thanks. And for some reason, I came here today!!! We all miss you Barb.

Crosseye,Barb said the bow felt alive in her hand, she put hundreds of arrows thru her.I didnt know what to do with the bow,the bow didnt bond with me like it did Barb. Some might say a piece of wood is dead after its made into a bow but Barb always said the bows maker put a part of his spirt into the selfbow and breaths life into it,if you respect the bow it`ll bond with you.She claimed her selfbows talked to her and I dont doubt they did.Barb had an uncanny way with nature and understanding it.Everything from the deer, beaver and even the den of coyotes she found never showed fear of her.Once when I asked her how she did it she said few would understand after a long pause she said Muzz would know deep inside him he still has the old ways.

I am reading this thread with a deep sadness and a heavy dose of regret. I too was touched by Barb through this site, and I am very ashamed to say that I know idea of her passing until tonight. Once I get up the courage, I will dig through the other threads to find out the rest of the story.

Barb and I struck up a deal through this site. It started by me asking her if she would make me a quiver with one of my skins. Somewhere along the line, I mentioned that I had some really nice otter. She said that she always wanted to make a special otter quiver for herself. She offered to make me an elk hide quiver in trade and the beginning of the deal was set.

While boxing up the otter skin, I threw in a beaver skin simply as a gift. When Barb received the box, she sent me one of the most touching e-mails I have ever received. Barb was very touched by the extra gift, and she could not believe how nice the otter was and she wanted to make me a matching longbow case with fringe. In addition, her first report was that she was having difficulty getting the blonde elk hide that I wanted, but she somehow was able to find some without ever telling me during construction. The next version of our deal was born.

The quiver and longbow case I now have are some of my most treasured possessions. Now that I hear of her passing, I cannot being to express my regret for never meeting her. Her talent was unbelievable and I wouldn't part with my items from her for gold!

While I truly hope she got to make that quiver for herself, I suspect that she continued to get sidetracked on projects for others, as she seemed to enjoy that the most.

I am sure she is with all of us, and I hope to meet her on a hunt someday.

Dan
