Been working these the last few days when I could. Both are made from Ramin dowels, heavy as hell and stiff as a board. But they're just for display.

These were the last 2 knapped heads I got from Linc a while back. The lighter one is Prarie Rattler I believe, the darker one is Canebrake.Artificial sinew ,self nocks, and a little torch work......

A while back in the classifieds I started a thread
about needing some snakeskin scraps.I asked for scraps and a few guys went way above and beyond what I could have possibly asked for. Some sent me whole skins!!! And more than one!!! The generosity here is sometimes overwelming!!

So slowly but surely I'll try to repay my gratitude, with an arrow. But I need to collect up some more arrow heads and turkey feathers first..

The light one is headed for "Linc",as another thank you for the knapped heads, and the other is headed to "Larry" for the 3 skins he sent me.....both are headed for Martville,NY !!!

Thanks Guys [Not Worthy]

Wowee Curt, those are just gorgeous! Some questions, Sir -
  • What method didja use to cut the self nocks?
  • Didja use any glue on the feathers, or just rely on the whip binding?
  • What finish didja use?
Much obliged!

Rob, The nocks were cut with a jig saw, then worked with a small file and sandpaper.Yes, I cheated with some glue. The finish is water base poly.

The last ones I made i wrapped the entire feather...

 -

But thought it took away from the snakeskin....what do you guys think, better with the full wrapping or just the 2 ends????

Thanx Curt! With those purty snake skins, I like just the ends of the feathers whipped.
