Well Norm is going to start building my bow soon and I'd like to order some arrows for it.
It's a 62" recurve, 53# @ 28" and I pull 28.5". Fast flight string.
I'd like to try the Sitka's this time, the only other carbons I've tried before were the carbonwood 300's for a very similar bow and I had fits getting them to fly right.
I prefer my arrows cut 29" BOP if I can. I use Wensel Woodsman 150 grain screw in heads. I'd like my arrows to come in around 480-530 grains.
Anyone that is shooting a very similar setup would you please tell me how much weight does it take up front to get them to spine correctly?
I'd also appreciated any other carbon arrow setup information for 53#-55# bows @ 28" with 29"-30" arrows.
I did a search and really didn't find what I was looking for although I did find a lot of usefull tuning info.<BR>

^^^^^^ Are you shooting them in a similar bow weight and draw? If so what weight heads and inserts? Cut to what length?

Gold Tips 35-55 with weight tubes to get you up to weight. It's what I use on my Blacktail and its spined just about like yours. I get great arrow flight.

I shoot several recurves 55-57 @27. I've got the axis 500's to tune well with the 100 gr insert and 175 gr fp. Total arrow weight is about 525. For more weight...i can go to ab axis 400 with 250 fp and toal arrow weight of 620.

I've decided I'm going to try the Beman MFX Classics. Now the question is 400's or 500's ? I saw some posts of guys shooting right around #50's using the 500's and still having to use a 100 grain insert with a 125 grain head. And then I see posts right at #50 using the 400's with 100 grain insert and 125 grain heads.
I'm thinking the 500's would be the best roll of the dice for my setup. I really don't want the arrow over 550 grains and from what I've seen if I went with the 400's I'd end up around 600+ with the weight needed to soften the spine.
Once again I really like my arrows cut 29" BOP. 62" take down recurve, #53 at 28" Dyna97 string.
Anyone shooting 500's out of a #50-#53 recurve with a 28" draw and cut 29"-30" BOP?

Maybe you should buy one of the test paks from 3 rivers.. I think you get a couple of 340, a couple of 400's and a couple of 500's.. Might save spending on a dozen shafts that aren't right..

Mike, I have owned a Blacktail for about 5 years and I have recently done some experimenting with Beeman 500 classic carbon arrows. My bow is #55@28" and I draw the 62" bow right to 28"BOP. The 500's as a bare shaft with a standard HIT insert fly just a tiny bit nock right with 125 grain fieldpts. With 135 grain zwickey eskilites and fletching the fly very well. The Beeman chart suggest 400's for my bow but these would be way overspined unless I used the 100 grain brass inserts; something I would consider if I wanted a much heavier arrow or FOC for Elk or other bigger game.Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions about setting up your Blacktail.

You will be able to get Sitkas to fly out of that bow. Trad heavies by arrow dynamics are also awesome.

I was going to try the Sitkas but I've heard too much negative about finding the spine and hard too tune ect to gamble on them for the money they cost.
I got some good info from the Leatherwall with this same question. I'm going to go with the 500 Beman Classics and foot them.
Norm shot me an email the other day and said he started cutting on my riser...not much longer now!

I shoot a 54# @28 recurve & I use the Heritage 150's with long adaptors & 125 grain woodsmans with a 5 grain washer. Mine are cut @28" and fly great. They weigh in just right around 520. Good luck.

You should be fine. I shoot the 500s out of my 57@28 Mentor (I draw 28). They're cut 28.5" BOP. I shoot 150 grain WW's and they have 100 grain brass inserts and footed w/ alum. They bare shafted slightly weak but fly fine fletched up.
