Does anyone here use the olimpic anchor? I have tried and it is not quite natural to me.

I anchor on my chin between my lower lip and the bottom of my chin. I get harrased about it not being the ideal spot to anchor but it is what feels natural to me and I have figured out how to repeat it pretty well....so I stick with it.

It would be between what most hunters and olympic style shooters use.

I shoot completely under my chin when I shoot instinctivly. I simply look where I want to shoot and let her fly. I shoot under my chin when I shoot airial also.

If you have a double chin, then you automatically have two possible anchor points.

Just couldn't resist the temptation.

The under the chin anchor takes SOME work to really get comfortable with. It feels to many (including me) to be a more vague position and it really does depend on really good alignment (form) to get to work correctly. In the "field" many find that the references that are harder to find are also slower.

I would point out too that with that low an anchor point, your point on distance will really be getting out there. As in all things, there are trade offs. Under the chin is an ergonomically stronger position, but it will be slower to achieve than a more "trad" conventional "side of face" anchor.

Also, the very low position of the arrow nock on the face will really increase your "gaps" if that is how you aim but may not be a factor if you are shooting more instinctively. The under chin really works well when you are shooting sights, but becomes problematic for many when shooting barebow.

I only use it for really long work, 125 yards and over. I used it in a 180 yard clout shoot and it works great.

It's also alot harder to hold under the chin. None would be able to hold 50 to 57 lbs under the chin for 40 good shots without breaking form.
Unless they trained alot. But not the first few hundred goes at it.

I am trying this type of anchor in an effort to start loving trad archery again. Over the last couple years I've gotten very frustrated and burned out with the usual anchoring. I feel like the shape and build of my face makes the "side of face" anchor almost impossible for any sort of proper alignment. I've tried a lot of anchors and I'm enjoying this under the chin anchor right now. I am not " thinking" about the shot near as much and it seems to be much simpler and natural. I have not done it for very long though and need practice.

I'd have to say that is false. I use under the chin for target and it is much more biomechanically correct and is much easier to use. I can shoot a full FITA in a day with practice rounds (around 200 arrows) using this anchor. I shoot 50 pounds through the clicker.

I use a completely different anchor with my hunting recuves however, mainly because I need the string further from my body due to clearance issues and aiming differences.

I recently tried the under the chin for a good month. Never was able to get exact elevation like I can when i hold side of face. Gone back to more traditional anchor and making good progress. it was a learning experience. if you are going to use a sight--i suggest you use the under chin oly hold. it's easier to hold. it's easier to repeat. it's just REALLY hard to get the elevation exact without a sight. And I ain't using a sight (yet.
Listen to Moebow---and the guys on thsi site. They are experienced, talented and give real thought to your questions. I love this place.
