ok...here's my situation. I shoot a longbow that was tillered for split finger BUT after lots of experimenting I have concluded that I DEFINATELY shoot 3 under better...especially at longer distances. My only complaint is that shooting 3 under isn't quiet like split. Any suggestions ?

I just recently switched as well, but I've never noticed increased noise. What would cause that? Maybe just buy better string silencers.

I also shoot more accurately with three under. I have always felt that split finger was probably better for hunting especially small game where you have to get off a quick shot and three finger under was better for target. Of course, both methods will work for target and game. There seems to be more noise with three under for me also.

Move the nock point up the string farther and that usually helps with the noise. My nock point is about 7/8" above the 90 degree line. I also added wool string silencers and that helps a bunch as well.

3 under was louder for me until I switched from a dead release to pulling through....also I shoot about 11 grains per pound.It works great for me and I have more confidence in my ability to shoot stuff than I ever have.RC

I like 3 under. My bow is tillered for split. I use an elevated rest and my nock point is 5/16" above the rest. I experimented shooting off the shelf. My nock point off the shelf was 7/8". the bow seems to want the nock point at a certain spot! The one thing i will say about 3 under is that my arrow has hit the ground at my feet alot since the switch!!! I hate that!! You have to be aware and in control if you draw and don't shoot, but lower your draw(is there a word for lowering your draw or in other words not shooting after coming to full draw. I have noticed the same thing with some of the guys I shoot with that use 3 under too!!! this could cost you an animal during the season!

I now shoot 3 under. I shot split for years and had never heard of three under. Read about it, tried it, shot better instantly. My old Hill bow is tillered for split. My new one I had tillered for three under. I do have my nock point higher on the split bow. It makes sense if you think about it. If you have your bow set up for split and you move the finger above the nock to below the nock (3 under) you are now pulling more on the bottom limb. So if you move your nock point up you help compensate for this. The arrow is harder to keep on the shelf using 3 under but once you get used to it that problem seems to go away.
