Hey guys I just moved from PA to Essex right outside of Baltimore. I hear it is hard to find property to hunt on in the area. Anyone have any ideas where to go Ive heard of Loch Raven and Gunpowder Falls but dont know much about them. Are they over hunted, I heard you can only hunt a few days on the permit...is that how it works? anyone have a spot open on a lease nearby? Also I want to get into some bowfishing for rays, can anyone offer advice? Are there any trad clubs in the area?
Any advice would be appreciated!

Hello Nick. Welcome to our home state of Maryland. My name is Tony Sanders, and yes there is a Traditional Club here in Maryland. It's The Traditional Bowhunters Of Maryland. I have been a member almost from it's inception. We are a fun loving group of guys, you can look at our web site on the internet. As far as hunting within the general vacinity where you live, I don't have much info. But I do hope someone can chime in and put you in touch with some property somewhere in your area. The only other option is public property and leasing. Shoot Straight and Good Hunting.
They are a good bunch of folks, there are some "trad guys" there as well, and they host the Traditional Classic every year.
The organization Tony mentions (TBM) is a great start. You also may want to add to your list the MBS (Maryland Bowhunters Society).
There are a few local websites that can put you in touch with specific local info and hunting opportunities, but I don't think it would be appropriate here for me to post up those. I would be happy to send you the info if you PM me your email address.
You should have no problems finding all your answers.
Jim
(Hey Tony...if you are going to the Charles Co. Sportsmans show this weekend, be sure to look me up at the youth archery clinic and say hi.)

I work near essex in Rosedale and am in a similar boat to you looking for places to hunt.
I scouted a small area of Loch Raven and there are plenty of deer in there as well as hunters, but if you get 200yds in away from the road the number of hunter diminishes greatly.
Liberty and Pretty boy also have lots of deer are archery only and maybe less pedestrian traffic, but are farther away. The probable new President of TBM lives in that area and is a great guy Jorge Coppen. I'm sure for a few hunting stories he might give up a few spots...at least that's what I'm hoping for...lol
Let me know if you want to hook up sometime and do some hunting or scouting.

Sorry about that Tony, excuse me MR. SANDERS!
Here's a little secret...Tony Sanders is the luckiest guy I have ever seen when it comes to raffle drawings...just put your tickets in for the items he and his wife don't because otherwise you won't have a chance!
TBM is a great group of guys and gals. We're not perfect (they let me in for crying out loud) but fun!
