You never know what you'll encounter.

 -

This thing measured 5' 9"

 -

7 rattles and a button. Good first use for the new knife.

 -

This one's just for effect. Be careful out there and watch where you're walking.

I was just talking about not seeing many rattlesnakes anymore. Is that a double fang on the right side?

Robert- Yes, it was at Gate 4 right about where I'm standing in the picture. If I had arrived 30 seconds later I would have missed it. It's the first venomous snake I've seen out there. As for the full moon... who can say? Could be, I suppose.

Andy- That wasn't a double fang, it seemed more like a little piece of skin or something. I thought it was an extra fang at first, too.

The evening before this I had made it out of the woods in the dark without turning on the flashlight just to see if I could do it by moonlight. I won't be doing that again.

Dang, Herb, you messed up the first foot of skin! You are supposed to ten ring the head! [archer2]

LOL! Just messing with you. If I had killed it it would have holes all over it because I WOULD STILL BE SHOOTING IT! They give me the shivers!

Good job.

I ran across two large Pygmy rattlers this morning in the WMA I'm huntin' up here this season while helping a friend with some ladder stand installs. I'm back to wearing my leggings all the time now. Had a really good first day out, no game shot at but the acorns were "raining" out of the trees and the critters are hitting them hard! Hope to put my new widow to the test real soon!!! Ya'll be careful out there. [archer] Rick

Herb,
Nice looking Buzzworm. Did you have it for dinner?
Last one I got like that was the honored guest for a snake and eggs breakfast. Sure was tasty.

Definitely keep your eyes open, I've been seeing an unusual amount of snakes this year, both venomous and non. Can't explain why but they seem to be everywhere. And being one that has been bitten 7 times over the past 32 years, I will be wearing my snake boots every time I enter the woods this year.(By order of the Boss, even she has noticed the increase in activity, she knows I tend to watch what's going on around me more than where I'm putting my feet.)
