The Michigan Longbow Association (MLA) was formed in 1983 by a small group of longbow enthusiasts who wanted to promote the use of the longbow, and enjoy the camaraderie of other traditional archers who also enjoyed shooting longbows.

Since then, hundreds of members have joined the ranks of the MLA, and have enjoyed the family-oriented atmosphere of our longbow events and activities.

Please explore our website to learn more about the MLA, and hopefully we'll be sharing stories around the campfire or the target butts with you soon. Please click the link below:

Michigan Longbow Association
Spring Shoot and Membership Meeting

June 2-4, 2006
Wilder Creek Club, Marshall, MI

Free Camping, shooting, and Saturday afternoon hog roast.
After the meeting on Saturday we will have our annual "American Round" competition, as well as a new "Sherwood Challenge" shoot, and a bow give-away shoot involving chance and skill. We invite all MLA members to attend this wonderful members only event.
Now I have to say here that for fifteen dollars a year membership the spring shoot is a chance for us to give back to the membership. This is one of the best times of the year as we come together as a fraternal organization and have one fun weekend. Come on out and try it out and if you don't own a longbow and wood arrows we will find one for you to shoot in the American Round or just shoot the course for fun.

Jim, that post was from 2006. This year it is May 16-17 at the Pine River Recreation Club in Elm Hall. Check out the website for more info.

Just to update this thread some the Michigan Longbow Association has gone through some changes these past years. Promoting Longbows and promoting the traditional way is still the main purpose of this organization. The out reach has gone way past the borders of Michigan to places such as Iraq and Afghanistan through Camp Cuervo Archery Club originally sponsored by the MLA in 2004. Since that time we have been teaching traditional archery to children not only here in Michigan but in Baghdad Iraq as well through Sgt. Keith Gibson and his soldiers at Camp Stryker. You can read about this in Primitive Archer JUNE/JULY edition where Keith wrote a great story about the bow he built with his combat knife. I am proud to say that we are involved with our troops in rebuilding Iraq through there youth as well.
This August is the Great Lakes Longbow Invitational and yes all arrows are permitted but you still need to show up with a longbow if you wish to shoot in any of the great events we have for you to enjoy. This year our returning vets are being welcomed by us by picking up all their camping fees and shooting fees. If you are a vet returned home from Iraq or Astan and would like to attend please feel free to get in touch with me so I can welcome you and present you with the keys to the GLLI. We would love to have you visit us.
