Mark your calendars for October 8th thru the 16th, 2011 to be a part of the MLA family for the Official 2011 Fall Hunt and Traditional Gathering at 7 Lakes State Park in Holly, MI. Join us for 1 day, all 9 or anything in between. All MLA members are welcome to attend.
At 7 Lakes State Park, there is 70 (electric only) campsites with modern restrooms that have showers and handicapped facilities and is located on 1,434 acres of prime rolling woodlands and open fields that provide a variety of opportunities for outdoor activities. Hunting is permitted in the State Park for deer, turkey, waterfowl, rabbit and squirrels (there is plenty of all species).
There is approximately 6.5 miles of hiking and Mountain bike trails within the vast sprawling park, and if that isn't enough area for you, there is also plenty of State Land within a short drive from our campground at Holly State Recreation Area. Other outdoor activities (if there is such a thing during hunting season) available here or nearby include hiking/biking trails, golfing, fishing, boating, outlet mall shopping, canoeing/kayaking to name just a few.
On October 15th the campground staff is holding a "Chili Cook Off" contest with awards going to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Chili must be prepared and cooked onsite. Chili judging will be at 5PM. What a fitting end to an awesome hunt/gathering. Let's turn it into our own pot luck dinner, just like all the other Saturday events we attend.
The cost of camping is $19.00 per night; reservations will be the responsibility of the member. We are looking at the east end of the campground as it most likely will be less populated by the public. Reservations can be made on line at: michigandnr.com or by phone 800 447 2757
Whoever is interested; please contact Mike Vines or Ken Scollick. All traditional archery hunting equipment welcome.

Less than 2 weeks now. We went out scouting these last 2 weekends, with the help of a huge aerial photo with topo lines I obtained from Oakland County. Things are looking REAL good for those that will be attending.
Don't forget that if you have a chili recipe, you think is worthy of winning a contest, the DNR is hosting a chili cookoff for campers only. You MUST prepare the chili and cook it there.
