Can anyone explain how Monty did his "Blackened Backstrap"? I wanted to go, but I was over helping in the kid's shooting/activity centers helping Floyd with the younger ones, and wasn't able to attend. I keep hearing great things, but would like to know whT he did to the Backstrap.

It was a great rendezvous......I agree with Ron, Rock Pile Farms stuff is GOOOOOOOOD !!!!! The muscadine cider is especially good cut with a little adult clear stuff to curb the sweetness....vendors were great and Monty and Fred were excellant, as all ways.....can't hardly wait until next year......

I was at Comptons from Weds to Sunday and enjoyed every minute except packing up a wet tent. I liked all the vendors and hope they will continue. The strength of the vendor base will carry this event to greater heights IMO. I didn't see Monty but was there for both of Fred Eichler's talks and enjoyed them immensely. He has a terrific sense of humor and the "behind the scenes" stories were rich. Great job to all the volunteers

Now I wasn't there, but I wish I was....
But Roger, what was it about Fred's "infomercial...... that you didn't even stay for...... that bothered you enough to post something like this about him on a public forum?
I've been around Fred, shot with Fred, and listened to him speak at the NYB banquet....and he's never been anything but a friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, down to earth family guy.
Never boastful, always smiling, very entertaining....just a really cool guy to hang with.
We're lucky to have him in front of the cameras as an ambassador for our sport

We (my Dad, his friend Robin, and Rob's son Connor) had a riot. This was Rob and Connor's first time out and I'd like to think we showed them a good time.
Highlights from our trip include:
The food! we made venison burgers, eggs with wild hog sausage, pork chops stuffed with apples and cheese, and just about one of everything from the concessions.
Camp life: you can't beat sharing a camp with friends, new and old, shooting the breeze and talking bows and hunting.
The 3-d courses provided a lot of entertainment for all of us as we chased arrows and talked smack
Shooting aerials was a blast! I really like the novelties. Where was the gentleman that normally has the turkey shoot?
I enjoyed watching the auction, Fred Eichler cracked me up, and shooting a northern mist shelton were also ranked right up there with all the fun i had this weekend.
I do have one regret though. I didn't get my camera out nearly enough. I think i shot one video of the aerials.
Thank you Compton's I'm happy to say that I am a member now!

Mike, I'll post his recipe a bit later. I know my wife was busy writing it all down while I was enjoying the smells. Generally though it was a lot of different spices put on very liberally then cooked in a cast iron pan in about an eighth inch of olive oil very hot creating a crust then deglazing the pan in red wine and soy. He is a master chef.

I had a great time, although I helped the Compton board and worked most of it. Best part of the Rendezvous is always seeing friends, both old and new.
I posted this in the Compton picture thread, but for those of you who have a Facebook account, I posted up my pics on the Compton Traditional Bowhunters' Facebook page. For those of you without a Facebook account, this link MIGHT work for you..
If not, it might be the end of the week before I can get my pics resized and posted up.
Please keep in mind that the pics of the vendor areas were taken late in the day on Sunday and the crowd had began to clear out. It was a LOT busier Saturday, that's for sure!

Guru, I'm with you regarding Fred. My buddies and I were shooting one of the courses Saturday afternoon and Fred, Michelle, and the boys happened to be right behind us. They were so enjoyable to be around, down to earth, and just enjoyed bantering with us as any of my shooting buddies. We joked, enjoyed watching their youngest shoot some great shots, and learned how he has never seen a jackalope but "I believe in them and some day I'm gonna' kill one." The little guy is a chip off the old block. Nice family that shares the outdoor experience together--values we need more of. Of course one of our trad heros, Fred Bear, never made any "infomercials" did he. Posts: 2843 | From: Charleston, WV | Registered: Mar 2003

It was a great weekend with two of the greatest there to entertain us. Monte is a class act. Always enjoy talking to him. You really have to give him credit for doing everything the hard way and he wouldn't have it any other way.
Fred is top notch as well. You sure can tell when he is enjoying himself. No way he can hide that much enthusiasm. Sunday morning the Compton folks gave him and his family Compton merchandise to take home. The Eichlers insisted on paying for them.
All around it is hard to beat Compton. So much going on with the finest folks you could hope for.
A big THANK YOU to the multitude of people that had a hand in putting this event on.
