Thanks

When I taught bowhunter ed classes, I use to point out to the classes that they were created by God with Canine teeth [for eating meat] and with eyes in the front of their head, making them a predator. Therefore "right or privilege" is trumped by just being what you are created to be, a hunter! That being said, we are also stewards and are expected to care for all of creation.

Wasn't there some discussion in the TN legislature about this a year or two ago about making it a protected right? Someone out there remember?

Found something on it online, this is something we should get behind and support.

“Right to hunt” constitutional amendment passes 105th General Assembly

House Joint Resolution 108 passed on the House floor this week with overwhelming aproval. The constitutional amendment would add provisions to the state constitution establishing the right to hunt, fish, and harvest game subject to “reasonable rules and regulations.” An excerpt from the resolution reads:

Hunting and fishing are honored traditions in the state; citizens have enjoyed the bounty of Tennessee’s natural resources from the time prior to statehood, including hunting and fishing for subsistence and recreation; therefore, hunting and fishing is a vital part of the state’s heritage and economy and should be preserved and protected.

Having already passed the Senate this year, the amendment must now win the approval of the 106th General Assembly next year by a two-thirds vote. The measure could be on the ballot for referendum as early as 2010.

Brian, I have a new audio book that deals with this subject at great length. It's called "On Down the TraiL" a spiritual guide to hunting camp. you can hear a sample at my website in the trading post. JB

I am afraid that according to the new White House Administration that we may see, it will be a PRIVILEGE that they have the RIGHT to interfere with....

Here is some biblical reading for you...

* Genesis 1:26-28 - "Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’

"God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.’ "

*Genesis 3:21 - "The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them."

*Genesis 9:3 - "Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything."

*Exodus 16:8-13 - "Moses also said, ‘You will know that it was the Lord when he gives you meat to eat in the evening and all the bread you want in the morning...’ The Lord said to Moses, ‘I have heard the grumbling of the Israelites. Tell them ‘At twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread. Then you will know that I am the Lord your god.’ "

*Acts 10:9-15 - "About noon the following day as they were approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. Then a voice told him, ‘Get up, Peter, kill and eat.’

I would like to see a 'Right to Hunt' in the TN constitution.
It would be great if their is a way for TTAS to organize to support the action.
Do I fear the coming federal congress and executive branch as far as hunting and guns go? No, I don't.
Do I fear the fear mongerers with ulterior motives to make me afraid of such things?
Yes I do.

I'll see what I can find out on the legislation, a high school friend of mine is actually our local TN congressman. I think that this is exactly something that TTAS should support esp if it can protect hunting long term.

Thanks ! keep it coming.

SingingBowyer; I was thinking of the story of Hagar and Ishmael - in which Abraham has a child from his wife and his wife feels that his son from his bondswoman is interfering with things.
So the bondswoman and child are sent into the wilderness with a bag of water - where they surely would die.
God saves the boy and the mother and then...
20 And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.

sure seems like a major message there to me; that if you want to be with god; go into the wilderness with your bow; and learn how to set goals and how not to be distracted and be off your mark a little ( 'sin') or to completely miss your mark ( 'evil').

And that makes it sound like a human right- not a priviledge- to hunt.

Brian,

Yep--that is one of my favorites. Can't believe I forgot to mention that one...

The scripture is also a good one for showing the benefit of being a "husband of one wife"..:) Those girls can get jealous!

I feel that hunting is our right. I believe that is what God made us to be. But I also feel we should regard it as a priviledge. I think we as hunters let to much slide when it comes to policing our own ranks.

As far as the state-wide legislation, I'm all for TTAS getting envolved.

Brian I notice that you have visited many of the state sites and asked this same question. Do you have a motive or agenda?

Right to hunt legislation could well be the mother of all can of worms. The phrase "Be careful what you wish for" seems very appropriate to me.

Case in point “reasonable rules and regulations”
--every single rule and regulation change will be challenged in court and appealed multiple times regardless of the positive or negative impact to the resource (wildlife management as we know it now will cease to exist)
--loss of ability for courts to revoke hunting "privileges" as a deterrent to poaching (fines and loss of guns are the price of doing business--have you ever been to the typical contraband sale in your respective counties--poachers use junky equipment for a reason)
--Totally undermines the Wildlife Violators Compact Agreement (basically means banned in this state, banned in the other member states)

Signed,
"The fear mongerer"

The "right to hunt" will be somewhat meaningless without somewhere to hunt. Access to hunting property is a looming major problem.

GJ has a very valid point.
