This is the year I make a real effort to get after some bear here in east Tennessee. Does anyone have any practical advice for our particular bears? We can't bait here, but can we use attractants like urine etc? Is it worth calling?
I'm going to hit the green truck office for whatever clarification I can get, but I thought it would be wise to seek out advice from you folk as well.
Would anyone be up for a jaunt or two in cherokee? There's some gorgeous areas to hunt if you don't mind the walking. We don't have long before they bring the dogs in and I'd like to make a solid trip of it before they start chasing the buggers up the trees.

We might be the only ones trying it, but we'll be the only ones that can say we did.

As Ethan says, if you've gotta be a bear you might as well be a grizzly.
Just talked to the kind folks at the local forestry office and got some good pointers for finding what I'm looking for. It's looking doable to float the Hiwassee River and hunt from the canoe. There are plenty of steep ridges to make sure I'm only doing this because I want to and not because it's easy.
This weekend is looking more like a scouting trip every day.

You only have seven days of bow only in polk county if you look at all the season dates. On one chart it says that from Sept. 22- Oct. 19 is archery only then on the next chart they have dog hunts that allow guns starting on the 29 of september. Regardless of that I think I'm going to be on some of the trails I've seen bears on while turkey hunting. Of course all of this is subject to what kind of sign I find after scouting some.
Are any of you guys going up the week before for deer/hogs? Thats what I'm plan on doing for scouting. Plus knowing my track record of getting shot opportunities while walking to and from stands I think I stand a chance at sticking a deer haha

I wouldn't get caught aiming at a hog over here. It ain't exactly legal these days.
I've got a good idea of where the bears get off to once the dogs get in there. I'm going to use that to my advantage.

On Cherokee you can kill hogs during any hunt. If you read the hunt dates in the guide book for south Cherokee wma it's says so.

Obviously we haven't met. No offense take. I actually hadn't read that, but it will make me happy to do so. Anything else I can hunt within driving distance of the house is a plus.
