Went out scouting a spot this past weekend and encountered a lot of bears. Passed on one and stalked a few others turned out were with cubs and such. Busted stalking another one.
Looking to get a partner with a stick bow this week. The hike in is 8 miles one way about 3000-3500 feet of elevation gain. I have done the hike in with a light pack in a few hours during morning temperatures when it is cooler. If you like to hike in far and see some bears, and perhaps have a chance I might enjoy your company and help hauling one out. Yours or mine... or both. This area is about 1.5 hours drive to the trailhead from Seattle.
I'm looking to head out either thursday or friday for an overnight trip.

That is a great offer, sounds like you might be headed up to my neck of the woods. I am headed over to eastern Wa to setup camp and chase some muleys until elk season opens. Good luck to you!

Good luck. I would come up but I am headed out to the coast Friday to camp and hunt deer and bear there until elk opens next week. Post some pics of your trip.

I would be interested in doing this with you next year if you still need a partner. I am not quite ready with my Sapphire Hawk yet..almost but not quite. I don't even mind making the hike in blind folded.

All right I'll keep you in mind. Not sure if that spot will be booming with bruins next year but why should it not be?
I went out and encountered 7 bears or so. I was fixated on one in particular which evaded me for many hours.

BDO, did you find any ripe berries and if so at what elevation? My hunting partner while on a scouting trip last weekend found the huckleberries green at 5500'.

Yes, there were ripe berries at approximately 5500-6000 feet.
But - I think it's going to vary from place to place. I have been to another spot which I frequent at similar elevation and there were a lot of green berries.

Sounds like a good trip. Lots of elk and deer at the coast but an amazing lack of bear and bear sign. Not a spot of black to be found. On the upside I got close to a bunch of elk. Just never got a clean shot angle. Late season will be fun. I am pondering a bear trip up in the north cascades before the snow falls.

That's one hell of a day hunt for you considering the drive. I'll follow up in private message.

Sounds good. Let me know times and I will double check with the wife to make sure I have Saturday free. I can't rememer anything I have to do and nothing is on my calendar.
A long days drive and hunt is totally worth it. I have a couple of places I want to look at in the central cascades and some more in the north cascades. I plan to start setting time up every late september early october to chase bears each year. Once I get several good spots lined up I will make long weekend hunting trips.
