Sorry for the newbie question but what's a "california start"?

No worries.

California start means you'll begin shooting whenever you're ready. So after you register, there is no set time to start shooting.

Take for example the times for this shoot on Saturday, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. Once you register, you can get with your group and hit the course whenever you're ready. Keep in mind though, that score cards on this day have to be in by 4:00 pm, so if you start a little later, give yourself enough time to complete the course to have your card in by 4:00 pm.

The California start is different than a shotgun start where the shooters get on the course at different targets, then a shotgun or another sound producing device signals the start of the shoot and everyone begins shooting.

Thanks Leo, appreciate it! Being originally from california I suspected it something to do with sleeping in & showing up late.

** UPDATE **

[knothead]

My sincerest apologies to those of you that have read this post. Thanks to Toxophilite (Phil J.) for catching it. The flyer reads the dates for this shoot as March 21-22, but for some reason my mind interpreted it as MAY! So I'm sorry for the boo boo, I corrected it and I hope to see everyone at this shoot in MARCH.

Hey, there's gonna be some scalp'in going on at the North vs South this weekend!
Everybody who shoots will be given one "scalp". There will be scalps for sale.
And there's a little challenge game you can play.
To get somebody else's scalp, you challenge them to most anything; i.e. – "I can out shoot you on the next five targets. If the challenge is taken, then the winner will get the other persons scalp. Could be one or all targets, a kill zone shot, moving target. Again, most any challenge that someone will accept.

Hey welcome to the forum Corey. You don't need to be real good to come and shoot. Man you should have seen me launching those new arrows clear over the other side of the target!! [banghead]

I've seen you shoot, and you're doing just fine, I think you'll be a natural on the 3D range. Techno...different story, hahaha.

There were a total of 43 shooters all weekend. I did just ok with a 174 out of 250 on a 25 target course. And as always, it was a lot of fun. I wish I could have been there both days, I wanted to get some good pics to put up here. Check out the post here about the Sterling Harrell shoot coming up next month. That's a fun one as well.
