Hello all, I have been checking into a laser to mark centerlines as shown on some build-a-longs. I have a local Harbor Freight and a Sears Tool store. Not sure what I am looking for. Any help on source, model and pics of rigs mounted to ceilings would be great. I suspect it my be the type used for hanging suspended ceilings.

I think any type of line laser will work,of course the brighter the better.
One note,still working on this,the bow has to be level and maybe centered on the laser line would be good.As in the bow mounted strait down from the laser....
If not,it may give a false reading in the curves of the limbs.
Like maybe a perfectly leveled shelf set up with the laser permanently mounted in the right position over it?
Am I just bein too cautious?
I still check with the weighted string before profiling limbs......

sounds about right, you would probably need some sort of jig to hold your bows in that is square/straight in relation to the laser to begin with, kind of like the wall lasers with the level built in. you know the laser is level on the wall and it shoots a straight line down it. you could probably use a bostitch frame laser level that clamps to a 2x4 to make a simple rig that you could adjust to whatever bow you are building, as long as the bow jig and the 2x4 piece are square to each other. the spinning ones would probably be nice too but ive never seen them in action so i cant say, but if they spin fast enough you could make a simple overhang jig to hold them square over a bow youre working on. i think the norm is that most are pole mounted, which could be accomadated with some thick round railing.

this is nothing fancy but shows my basic ideas, one overhanging the bow holding jig that is a revolving laser, the other a laser level which clamps to a 2x4 that is built square to your bow jig. i would think as long as you keep the bow square to your laser its up to you how you do it really, but personally i like the one that simply clamps to a 2x4 because you could adjust it pretty much as you wanted as far as height to accomadate diferent risers/bow styles, and the clamp one is more than likely cheaper.lol

Thanks guys, I am getting my hands on a set my buddy got at Cosco to look at. My form bench has brackets to hold my forms while gluing. I can turn the top half of the form upside down, tape the billet to it and use the laser from above. I will post a pic shortly. Motherboard fried Friday. Using a borrowed computer here.

awesome, hope it works out for ya. as long as the bench is in the same place and straight in relation to the laser all the time you shouldnt have problems
