My wife and I are headed to the island of Kauai at the end of march and have planned for a trip up the napali coastline for goats. I have read through some past posts and it has been a great amount of help. If any one has any other advice as to tactics and general areas along the trail it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Will do. As a side note, I did call the DNR the other day to confirm that a waiver is no longer needed for out-of-state hunters.

I would check with the local license vendors. The legislation changed but many vendors do not know about it (or pretend not to) and still refuse to sell you a hunting license without a DLNR Letter of Exemption. I know that Sports authority in Kapolei will not sell you a license without an exemption letter.

Its been a long time for me since I hunted that Kalalau trail. You have to go in a ways to get to the good hunting- at least we did....13 miles to kalalau . Some good goat hunting at about the 8 mile mark but really a guy can just hit one of those knife edge ridges and start climbing.

Its tough and very steep. The trail in can be pretty muddy in places. We camped with a tarp and sheet sewn together- you don't need much....though it does rain a lot! The one mtn face gets 482" a yr. Some cool old terraced areas for crops that are long since grown over. All of the goats are up out of the valleys.

Well we returned last week from the islands. Could not have had a better trip spending some time on the beach and hiking in on the Napali coast. We were successful locating animals and getting in close. The first morning, we made a couple of stalks, some successful and some not so much. My wife was able to take the first billy of the trip, a younger one bedded above a 30' cliff. She made a great shot and he barely was out of his bed before tumbling down the cliff.
Later that afternoon, we were around mile 8 or so and I was able to get in close shooting the first billy that gave me a shot. During the recovery, I moved around the ridge to find a good billy still trying to make a decision which way he should dive off. Before he was able to escape I was able to put an arrow on the string.
We camped in hammoks under the stars and listed to the 30' rollers hitting the rocks below. It is truly incredible and breath taking country.
Thanks to all here who provided help and guidance before the trip. I would be more than happy to return the favor if anyone else is lucky enough to find themselves on a plane over the ocean.

It's a special place!!! There are some very nice pools to swim in if you follow some of the streams.
