We went to Okeechobee last week for Easter break and had a good vacation. It was not the best bowfishing but it was better than no bowfishing. The day time bowfishing was very bad, the worst I have seen in some years with us only seeing a few fish. I intended for my youngest to shoot fish with a rig I set up for him but we had to go at night because the water was high and dark. I ran the motor, held the light, and tried to help him and didn't have enough hands. My 17 year old shot some and let his little brother reel them in and made me proud of him.

We managed to take some and even I got to shoot a few when the little one was too tired to go anylonger.

Over all it was a good time and we even saw a couple gators.

That fish looks like a plecostamus to me.

I think it is a plecostamus.....It is an invasive species in Florida and I have seen thousands in a day around Okeechobee lake. They feel like sandpaper and are bottom feeders. We also shot a few talipia that we kept to eat. They too are an invasive species in Florida. It was kind of eerie because we had them on a stringer tied to the boat when we passed a 6 foot gator about 2 yards away. I started wondering if he would get interested in them since we were leaving a blood trail. He didn't follow us to my knowledge....of course it was dark.

Yes it is. I bought it as a "beater" bow. You know ....the kind you can beat around in a boat. I can't bring myself to use any of my good laminated bows. I do use a few bows that I got at yard sales that have had a hard life. The PSE is a good bowfishing rig for the money.

I started seeing those plecostamus fish in Lake George (St Johns river) in 1999, they are everywhere now..people buy them at pet stores to control algae in fish tanks, then turn them loose in our lakes and rivers [knothead] ..we call them armored catfish, they are tough. Glad you guys shot a few fish, maybe it will be better next time.
