My hearing has been declining for many years. I just dug out an old hearing aid and found it had crapped out. A new one starts at $1500 so I have been thinking that maybe I could live day to day without one but might pop for a Walkers Game Ear for the woods. Anyone use one? How well does it work? Do you find any difficulty shooting with one on? They aren't cheap either @ $350 but if they worked as good as they are advertised, well maybe I'd think about it.

from what I have heard from people I know they work great.. A friend even got his dad a set since He can't hear out of both his ears. His dad doesn't hunt and uses the Walkers for everyday hearing.

i have a very old one that i use turkey hunting--without it i can't hear them gobble--one in each ear might be better for telling the direction of noise, but so far i haven't needed the second one--good battery life and fairly comfortable--give it a try and you will hear noises in the woods that you have forgotten about

I know what you mean medicineman. If I don't want to hear the birds singing in the morning I just roll over so my deafer ear is up and I don't hear anything. It's amazing what we miss when our hearing fails. Thanks for the input.

I have heard that the cabelas brand ear enhancer is also really good and a lot less expensive.

I bought the original and it worked ok. Since then I got two of the digital ones and they are even better. I wanted them for hunting hogs on the ground, but use them mostly in the stand now. On the ground all you can here is you walking. It makes you feel like you are making too much noise. What I'd like to suggest to any youngster looking at this is to wear some type of ear protection when in a noisy situation. I shot guns for years without earplugs, but I think that running a skilsaw on a framing crew for 20+ years is what did mine in. Don

If you get them, definitely post up how they work compared to the hearing aid. I wear hearing aids in both ears and hate them. They are good for hunting but bad for what they are iuntended; to understand people talking.

I had one, but sent it back to the store. I could hear everything with it, but I had no idea from what direction, or how far. It was like trying to hunt with a bag over my head. I hated it. Most of the stuff I heard ramblin thru the leaves, I never saw.
Are you using the muffs or the hearing aid type? Is it too loud when you are walking or do you just use it when standing? I know I miss things all the time lately and try to rely more on my eyes but the time has come to do something about my hearing.

I have two sets of the muff type. The first set was made by Peltor, Tactical 7's. These work great for the money, less then half the cost of the walker's. The second set is walker's that have the frequency adjustment on each ear. These work great unless you are within a half mile of a well used road. The traffic noise drowns out what is happening around you. Hearing enhancement of any kind works for me, too many years around rock drills and shooting without hearing protection.
