I know that grits is standard fare for breakfast in the south. I remember the first time I got them at a restaurant in Alabama. I said, "Whats this?..I didn't order this." I was told that grits comes with your breakfast unless you say you don't want em.

I'm usually a steak, eggs, and taters guy in the morning. The steak of coarse being venison. Cold cereal or oatmeal just doesn't stay with me and I'm hungry again in an hour.

Lately I've been having grits and eggs for breakfast and I've grown to like em. I'm thinkin that this would be a good stick to your ribs meal to have before hitting the woods in the morning. What say you southern boys? Can a Yankee survive on such a meal for more than an hour in the cold northern woods?

Ron, I am a southeast Missouri swamp monkey and my mother used to try to feed me that junk. My 10 brothers and sisters would eat it up almost as if they liked it but I had more sophisticated taste buds. Anyone who would eat grits would eat Malto meal.. yuck!!!

I'm super glad you found something you like for breakfast that'll stick to your ribs but for my part.. gimme some good ole oatmeal w/bacon crumbled in it. Shoot! I'd even take a bowl of rice with some sugar and butter over grits.

I know in advance that I'll get blasted for this especially when Butch sees this. He swears by grits and some other nasty foods...lol

Ron please don't take this personally but in the spirit it was written. I'm just hoping to get you back on the right path my friend...lol

God bless,Mudd

I still can't believe that don't like grits! I like oatmeal, rice & even Malto Meal but, grits is man food. Eggs, sunny side up, fried ham, good biscuits & grits with butter & salt. That's a real meal. Anybody that doesn't like grits, probably doesn't like hominy, bread pudding or rice pudding. I consider that as un-American! I bet you don't even like John Wayne. I love ya like a brother but, sometimes I just don't understand you. Lord knows, I've been trying to set you straight.

Ron,

I'm not a southern boy, but I have had grits and eggs for breakfast before hunting. I have also had eggs and taters same situation. I would say hunger-wise you won't know the difference and I don't miss many meals! [readit]

Ron, I am a grits and eggs kinda' guy. Yup straight from Arkansas. You can't hardly beat that kind of meal.

Just a warning to you Ron, you might start to notice a draw when you talk or the need to spit just because you can. If you start using the words "ain't or ya'll" don't worry about it. You will soon start to notice a desire to live down here if you ain't careful.

Grits and eggs, and you have got to have bacon and toast to go with it. And i'm not talking about instant grits or grits cooked for just 20 minutes or so. Proper grits are "cooked" slowly for more than an hour. Add some bacon grease and a little salt to taste. Every now and then you can have cheese grits for a change of pace or to add a little more fuel in the morning. [thumbsup]

Grits is good eatin! Add a couple eggs, bacon or sausage with biscuits and gravy and you have a breakfast that will stick to your ribs for awhile. I love country ham but it does make you thirsty so I stick with bacon or sausage.

Anybody that would turn up his nose at banana cream or coconut cream pie is one strange dude IMO. [nono]

Ron, how do you cook your grits? Do you like them regular, creamy or al dente?
