I got a quality bull tag for observatory. I am going to have to do some scouting as I have never been in the unit before. Anybody have any ideas where to start? Chris.

Got drawn for a cow tag in Taneum. Not a bow hunt though. No moose, goat, or sheep for me.

Start with USGS maps at the city library, and then Google Earth. Look for north running drainages, north facing slopes, burns, clear cuts, water & seclusion. You should be able to spot pinch points, too. Try to imagine where it might stay cool enough that a bank of ice might survive into September; elk like cool spots!
Then go to a few of those places and look for deep game trails; those that have been used for years. Also look for clusters of old rubs; places that bulls seemed to linger in Septembers past. Because those areas may be used year after year.
Good luck.

Thanks Dale, I am going to go over a couple of times this summer to check it out. I have a few places picked out already. I just hope they hold elk in the early season.
