Tough to follow up after them bucks TJ [saywhat]
 -
Took this doe with a 42 lb Bear TD and VPA....pass thru and deer went 75 yards
 -
Sika doe taken with a 41 lb Titan and a Snuffer, broadhead passed thru and into the ground but Sika are so short she broke it off when she took off, went 50 yards
 -
18 yards shot on a VA doe with the same Titan and a Snuffer. Quartering away, broadhead punched thru off side shoulder but stayed in the 100 yards or so the deer went.
 -
Same Titan but used a VPA at 20 yards, complete pass thru and deer went 75 yards with a profuse blood trail.

Again and again, it's not what you shoot its where ya put it and whatever you put in the good spot make sure its really sharp and you'll be gold.

My 2016 buck taken with bw PLV 45@26". Gold tip 500 and 175vpa 3 blade. Had a complete pass through on him with about 60 yard blood trail. It was my first year returning to trad after about 20 years of shooting wheel bows. Was always told you needed a lot of poundage to kill an animal and that was part of the reason I stuck to compound. Starting looking at info on this website and found out that wasn't the case especially after seeing this thread! Put it where it counts and you'll have no problems!

Thanks Ben, I enjoy having the photos. I will need them later in life when I lose my mind to be able to remember the events of the day. Sure wish I had pics of them all from 1984 until I started taking pics.

#45 Rick Welch Dakota

I got full penetration but not a pass through. I believe I clipped the shoulder going in and the offside shoulder going out. Otherwise, I think it would have been a pass through.

I've been watching and enjoying this thread for a while. It's time I posted a few of my own.
I use to shoot mid 50lbs bows, but due to shoulder issue's, I have been shooting 40-43lb bows since 2013
2013:
This little doe I actually killed by pulling my bow with my teeth, due to a broken collar bone.

40lb A&H Longbow. 200gr VPA 3 blade: 8 yard shot. 65 yard recovery
 -

2014 Antelope
40lb A&H longbow. Wensel Woodsman
 -

2014 Whitetail
40lb A&H, exact same arrow/broadhead as antelope
 -

2016
All killed with 43lb A&H longbow, and the same 250gr Abowyer Wapiti head
Dec 31
 -
Oct 17
 -
Dec 20
 -
I had another Dec kill, but no pix.

Is there an accepted "norm" as far as arrow weight per pound of draw with bows in the 40-45# range? I recently acquired a RER that is 43# at 28", and I am trying to tailor my arrows to it. I have always used arrows of 600ish grains out of bows 50-55#, so I think I need to lighten them up some.

You'll probably get a lot of different answers to this. Personally I like arrows around 450-500grs on deer sizes game if I'm hunting w/ bows under 50#.
