I've been thinking about going to Africa all my life and planning it for the last 8 years or so. I have watched airfare and they normally run $1800 to $2200 if I fly out of Los Angeles (about 3 1/2 hrs from Morro Bay)... Well like I said i watch the fairs all the time and I found a round trip fare for $1238 round trip. Well that pushed me over and SA here I come at the end of May... I haven’t worked out the details but I am set up with one of two outfitters I just need to choose. Some of you may have already found these kinds of deals but this was a first for me. These fares are tricky and will appear and disappear before your eyes.... Good luck everybody

The largest animal I will be after is a Nayala (240#s or so) so I will be using the equipment I use here. I haven't been hunting much this year do to some injuries but because of it I've started building some selfbows. Maybe if it feels right I'll take one with me for some of the hunting. It would be kind of cool to take game with a bow I built. My Big Jim 2pc Thunderchild and Buff will go for sure.
I've got almost six months to figure all this out

Anyway, I prefer to use a travel agent for oversea`s flights, just in case something gets screwed up. That way I have somebody familiar with the industry scrambling to minimize the damage.
My last trip to Jo-Burg cost $1480 per round trip ticket. That included a connecter flight from St. Louis to Dulles, a non-stop from Dulles to Jo-Burg, and the same thing coming back. The main flight was on South African Airlines.
However you get there, enjoy the experience, and take a LOT of pictures!

The airfare is a killer on some trips isn't it? I really wish they would do something about all the taxes it would definately help tourism if we didnt' have to spend 30% or more of our money on them.

Finding a fair for $1238 round trip pushed me over the edge. I'm not a rich man and yes it would be great if the fairs were more reasonable. There are some very good prices given the game opportunities and services provided but getting there and getting your animals back kind of negate the value?
