When I was looking to get into the world of ilf bows I new that I wanted something that was going to be as my family put it "Junior proof".

I also wanted something that was fairly cheap but at the same time durable.

These requirements led me to the Hoyt Excel. I chose the 23 inch because that was what Lancaster had in stock in the color I wanted (blackout).

This is a machined aluminum riser which at its price point, roughly $200 USD, is unusual as most risers are cast aluminum.

Now about the riser itself. It is light in the hand and the grip is extremely comfortable for me, but as I wear an XXL glove some people may find it not quite to their liking. The blackout coating is a personal favorite of mine since it doesn't scratch easily, for those unfamiliar with it, it's similar in feeling and appearance to spray in truck bed liner. The riser is top heavy however so be prepared to add either a stabilizer or a barebow weight to improve the balance.

Once I got in set up and shooting I began to appreciate the grip even more. I can honestly say that it is the most comfortable grip I have ever come across. The riser also doesn't transfer a lot of vibration to your hand and the long sight window is a gap shooters dream.

Mine is currently wearing a bolt on magnetic rest and a plunger. The limbs are SF premium plus glass/wood 44#@31". All in all this makes a sweet shooting bow that will work for target, 3D, and hunting. If you are looking for a low cost way into ilf set ups but want a lot for your money I recommend this riser.

I will be posting some pictures over the next couple days as I get a chance to transfer them over to my computer from my phone.
