I'll be hunting next to the house tomorrow at one of Oakland County's Parks, then Bald Mountain on Saturday, and probably in Holly come Sunday. This is the time of year I look forward to every year. I sure hope Laura and the kids remember what I look like in a couple months, and hopefully the dog won't bite me when I come home one of these days.

"Where is everybody??? Hello, echo,echo,echo..." I'm here, but I'm in Indiana. Hope ya don't mind me wandering into your state forum. Indiana doesn't seem to have much organized for longbows or archery in general. Been coming to your fine state quite a bit this summer for 3D shoots.

If you really want to have a hoot, you should come to our Great lake Longbow Invitational in August. We have the great shoots, and you have all the great farmland deer to hunt. We make good neighbors.
As for this evening, I went out to the local County Park, and all I saw (deer wise) was one, and I couldn't tell if it was a doe or buck due to it jumping from and into more cover while I was walking the trails. I did however connecton my first chipmunk with a judo head though. It was just sitting on top of a felled down trunk just begging me to try his luck. He craped out.
I found it kinda funny seeing people biking, joging and walking their dogs while out there. You could tell who the non hunters were. They were the ones asking at the top of their voice if I saw anything. LOL I was very happy to see a guy out there all camoed up like he was in sniper training, and he was highlighted by a big pink blob. The pink blob turned out to be his daughter out enjoying the evening with her dad. I never would have seen him if it were not for her pink outfit. Alright, game time is over. Out to State Land tomorrow to sit and take in all the sites that are waiting my arrival.

Well, I had Jury Duty today, so when I got home, I had the buring desire to shoot something. I headed to my local honey hole for a short 3 hr sit. I had been there for about 40-45 minutes and kept drawing a bead on this squirrel that kept prancing back and forth in front of me. It is awesome practice seeing how slow you can get into possition, and draw back without spooking the squirrel. Well, after doing this a few times, I decided to test my aim, so I nocked a judo tipped arrow, that a good friend had made for me yesterday, and let it fly. It hit about an inch behind it at 12 yards (a killing shot on a deer in my book) and the squirrel jumped up about a foot did a 180 degree turn and was like WTF was that? I'm still laughing about it as I type this. I let things calm down for close to 10 minutes, then decide to go get my arrow because the deer aren't moving anyway. I get to my arrow, look up to see a big doe 20 yards away with nothing but air between us, and she has no idea what so ever that I'm there. What am I to do? I draw hit anchor then let the shaft fly. Clasic double lung shot, and all she does is walk off like nothing ever happened. And in all actuality, nothing ever did happen. You see When I drew the bow, and loosed the arrow, it was all in my mind, because my dumb arse had left my bow and arrows at my ground blind when I went to retrieve my judo arrow. I still have no idea where she came from, but I did find where she went, and where 2 other trails intersectd that one. I ave a new spot begging to be hunted tomorrow evening. I learned 2 things on this hunt...Always be prepared for the unexpected, and only shoot at what you first set out to hunt.

Well, another fine weekend in Michigan's "North Woods". No deer to report, actually I didn't even see any. Didn't matter to me though. I spent the weekend in camp with a bunch of great guys, saw a few grouse, and even spanked one in the rear with a judo. From now on, I'm just going to use judo heads on stumps only. I'm sure the Bear Razorhead would have found the mark, and I would have had my first grouse down with a longbow. It was trully a Pope and Young specimen of finnest proportions, you should have seen the size of the plumage on it's head.
I'm taking my oldest (7) out with me tomorrow night. I think he is more excited than I am. He earned the right to come along by out shooting me in the back yard a couple weeks ago. With the weather system coming thru this week, it looks to be a good hunt tomorrow.
Maybe I should just change the title of this thread to "My field notes".
Where is everyone's reports?

Grapes I think they are all gone, haven't seen a fresh post for some time. You gotta watch them grouse, they can turn on you and take an eye out! LOL
Have fun with your son, mine is now 14 and he is wishing I were home to take him hunting more.

Sleeper State Park this weekend up in Caseville. Still no shots on deer, but I love getting out and trying all different locations around this wonderful state. They were cutting the corn down all around the park, so I'm just assuming that had alot to do with no dear in the area.

Spent the weekend at the camp, south of Custer Michigan. 8 sits and no-one saw a deer. Has to be the weather. I think we need a weather change to get the deer moving again.
We do have a lot of problems with bear, coyotes and cougar sightings.
Stopped by Jays on the way to the Vets hunt last week. The archery saleman said that they have sold thousands of cross bows this season. I hope the users get disappointed with the slow deer movement and stay out of the woods.

I have heardthe same thing echoed all over state. Deer just aren't moving. One of the guys in our department shot a nice sized pig this weekend in Brown City. He said there were 5 of them on the property. I for one am happy to see more things to hunt in this state. I know alot of people say it will ruin the deer hunting, but the deer and pigs coexist very well in other states, so I think it will be fine. And that scientific guess is based on my 7th grade science class where I received a C-. I passed, so I must be onto something.

We stay near the Sleeper State park for the Great Lakes Bowfishing Championship in the spring. Nice area and we see lots of deer. Deer movement seems to be picking up. Saw a lot of deer this morning and afternoon around the Hesperia area. Disagree on the pigs. They might "co-exist" but our deer have enough competetion with each other, hunters and predators as it is. Pigs are not good for our habitat type either. Based on my limited college science degree and a lot of reading.
