Title: Magnus Classic Single Bevel
Post by: BowHunterGA on February 10, 2016, 11:39:00 PM
I am very excited to announce a special offering from Simply Traditional. We have been working with the great folks over at Thunder Valley Archery and have come up with a unique broadhead for Simply Traditional Customers. This 150 grain, 2 blade head is based on the largest Magnus Classic head but features a single bevel cut for you single bevel fans. This head currently comes in at 150 grains and has the same dimensions as the 160 grain Magnus Classic. With a wide head like this combined with the vicious "S" wound created by a single bevel you can now have the best of both worlds. The performance on soft skinned animals like Whitetails should be nothing short of spectacular. These will have a price point of $36 plus shipping, the same as all other 2 blade Magnus glue on heads. We will have them added to the website later today but if interested please feel free to message me here and I can take your order. Currently all heads in stock are 150 grain Left Bevel but Right bevel heads are also available by special order. Also, while these are the glue on models we also stock threaded adapters in many weights and can help you build a broadhead for use with carbon or aluminum arrows. We can also get lighter heads with single bevel cut if there is an interest shoot me a PM or comment here if you are interested in a lighter version.

Steve, it's been a lot of fun watching your single bevel journey. I guess an old dog can learn new tricks!    :goldtooth:

I look forward to mounting and sharpening some of these up on Sunday!

I would like to try these on wood shafts but really want a head in the 200-250 gr range. Anything like that in the future?

What Thom said. Basinboy, if you decide you want a pack in right bevel please shoot me a message so i can add you to the list. I need a few more orders to have enough to place an order for right bevels. I am also going to add enough to that order so that I will have them in stock moving forward.

are these priced per 3 or per or half dozen? also, any chance they will come in a pre-made screw-in at some point (so i can't mess up the spin trying to glue and mount them, haha!)?

Post by: BowHunterGA on February 11, 2016, 01:40:00 PM
They are priced per 6 pack. For now at least if you are interested in a screw in model then shoot me a message and lets discuss what weight you are looking for. I can glue them up for you and keep the price lower than selling a screw in model. Those are sold in packs of 3 instead of 6.

What weight adapters will you have for the screw-in version? (just thinking about down the road for the arrows you are sending me next week.)

Miles,

I have 25, 30, 40, 75 and 100 grain adapters in stock and can get a couple other weights. I also stock the 125 grain Ace adapters that are a combo adapter and insert. The Ace adapters are brass.

I have gotten a few more orders for Right Bevel heads so I will get these ordered tomorrow. If anyone else wants a pack of right bevels let me know so I can add to this order. I will be getting a few extras to keep in stock but it would help if I can add them to this order.

Thanks everyone for the support!

what is the benifit to a single bevel over double?

I think you have a winner here.  Not everyone needs HEAVY single bevels, especially glue ons.  Thanks

Man-O-Man... been a HUGE fan of the 160 gr. Classics for years, but I've really had the itch to try a good single-bevel but hated to give up my Classics... now I don't have to - best of both worlds!!!

Generally people who use single bevels do so for it's bone breaching characteristics. Sometimes people will reference S cuts, or the "starburst" effect in soft organ tissue.  PM me if you want more info.

Corey, you're welcome!

RC: So a Yankee in a Prius pulls up to a BBQ joint in central Georgia and asks where the salad bar is... There's a punchline, you can make up any joke you want

Randy, I'm pretty excited about this one too. Tracking number says I get mine tomorrow!!!

Hey RC, I was just chuckling thinking about something really funny you said during one of the Hill Gang hunts. Apparently it left more of an impression on me than you. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I took a few minutes to modify my first one to the tanto tip and I think it turned out really good!

Only lost 2-3 grains. Scale is wavering between 146 and 147. Now I just need to wait for my 1 piece insert/adapters to arrive and I can glue this up and shoot it. Hopefully this week, got a pig hunt coming up pretty quick!

Yeah, I think it looks pretty good all touched up and mounted. Really want to go shoot something with it, too bad I'm stuck at the keyboard today!

I couldn't resist myself, I had a few adapters that were close to the weight I wanted so I decided to do one up yesterday. Will save the rest for when the heavier ones come in.

For everyone that contacted me an orderedd right bevel heads I have them in and I think I have contacted everyone and will ship them out tomorrow. If you ordered and have not heard from me please shoot me a pm.

I now have plenty of both right and left bevels in stock and ready to ship.

I can also install adapters if you need a screw in head. I have adapters from 30 to 100 grains and several sizes in between.

Here are some heads I am glueing up for a couple customers, one set is for Jamie Printz. His is using 100 grain steel adapters and they are glued up with JB Weld for a permanent fit. I clean all parts with denatured alcohol to remove any oil residue, these I am using JB Weld to glue them permanently and then spin test. They arrive ready to shoot!

We just added a blog article on the Magnus Single bevel including a video by Thom Jorgensen (sticksnstones) on his method for creating the tanto tip on these heads.

You can see the article and the video here.

Edge looks to be at about 25 degrees as best I can measure it.

The bevel on the heads from the factory are around 28 degrees .. if I change them to 25 it changes the profile of the head a bit. So the question is ... 25 to 28 degree will that impact the single bevel effectiveness?

Honestly I do not believe it would impact effectiveness all that much but that is more opinion than anything else. Without testing I could not say for certain.

I bought a pack of these from Steve and combined them with 75 grain adapters. Around 225 grains total. They hit right with my 225 grain field points. Easy to get sharp with just a file as well. They look pretty lethal!

Thanks for the feedback Todd. Glad you are happy with them. So far the responses has been great. We may be adding another weight to the single bevel offering for those that want a bit lighter option and still have a steel adapter.

Currently we do have 150 grain single bevels in both right and left bevels in stock and ready to ship and we keep adapters for folks that need screw in heads in ranges from 25 to 125 grains.

Steve must be taking a little break from the computer. As of about a week ago he still had rights and lefts but one kind was getting low.

This wasn't a one time run, Thunder Valley has already had to resupply him. I'd say give him a call or buy online if you know you want some.
