On May 23rd, I moved from south eastern Pennsylvania to southern rural Iowa. My wife and myself settled on a old farmhouse, along with some acreage, six miles from the closest paved road, 9 miles from the closest gas station and 17 miles from the closest grocery store. my closest neighbors are 1.3 miles away as well. My wife and I been trying to make this move for close to two years when we found what we was looking for. She flew out for the initial walk through and back out for the inspections. After negotiating on the final price, I drove out as my wife packed up the remainder of our belongings. I lived in a hotel for about 3 weeks until we made settlement June 21st. With in a week, I witnessed a tornado and was land locked by a flood. What a introduction.
I was working 7-10 hour days and coming home and working on the house several hours, I managed to set out a few trail camera's out here at my house and my property. It was a jaw dropping the very first time that I checked my camera's.
Fast forward to bow season, October 1st, bow opener. I took a half day off work and was more then happy to have taken a mature doe with my Martin Hunter, 55#@28in. with a Zwickey Delta. In the early morning hours of November 5th, I was blessed to take a 140 class 8 pointer with my Martin Hunter and Zwickey Delta. Even though I have seen larger bucks here, I was truly happy to take such a nice buck. But it was truly a amazing feeling to have taken such a deer on my own property. Here are some pictures of my dream come true. And all sheds was found within 50 yards of my house here.

Congrats on a beautiful property!
My wife and I were able to buy 26 acres a few years ago, and it's not much for hunting, but even owning a little chunk of land is a great feeling.
I hope you have many years to enjoy your ground!

That's awesome!! Congrats.

I left southeast PA (Elizabethtown) for greener pastures too. Ended up in the Smoky mountains of NC. Didn't buy a large piece of land because there is literally more public land here than I could cover in a lifetime.
What town were you from? I'm guessing you left for a lot of the same reasons I did.
-
Congrats...u have a beautiful place!

Let me first say congrats to you and your wife. I recently spent some time in southern Iowa looking at a couple farms. Your reality is my dream. I hope to own a piece of ground in Iowa in the future. I was blown away when I was out there. Enjoy!

Thanks everybody. For me it's a dream come true. The beans will be going in as soon as it drys up TJ. Last November I had two bruisers going toe to toe right in my front yard early in the morning. LOL. I could not be happier.

Can I have permission to hunt your new place? :goldtooth: bw

I have a couple of newer ladder stands that you can set up for Barry. You won't have to set one for me, I will just sit along a creek or brushy bottom and watch minnows and birds. Unless of course if you have too many does around, I would be willing to get a doe tag and help you out there.

Looks like a paradise! Enjoy the heck out of it!!

Last year, opening bow season morning came and all I could think of in disbelief, I am finally in Iowa bow hunting!! It wasn't easy to get here. I flown out here countless times looking at houses. Came close to closing the deal on 3 other homes but things fell through as they do sometimes. One home was a complete loss due a flood. I flew out of Philadelphia to Des Moines to see this house that I live in now along with 3 other houses with my realtor. I got in on Friday afternoon. I had the addresses so I wanted to take a look. So I drove south towards Albia. I pulled off the paved road, seen countless deer off the gravel road. When I pulled up, I remember saying to myself, look, some chickens are out. Here they was pheasants!! Haha. The house was empty so I took a walk around the house and property within sight of the house. Sean countless deer tracks on my walk. I walked up on the back deck that overlooks the standing corn field. I sat there for about a hour and a half and then watched 5 bucks walk out from the standing corn field about 60 yards off the deck. Without seeing the inside, I knew right there and then I found my home. Early the next morning I informed my realtor that I only need to see one home!!
