Title: The Official - Don't Ya Just HATE it when thread...
Post by: Terry Green on September 26, 2016, 07:44:00 PM
Don't ya just hate it when your get delayed in knowing when to enter the woods and the game is already on their feet?

Like yesterday, I went bear hunting with a friend of mine and we both split up at the truck, and BOTH of use about stepped on a bear on our way IN!!!  However...ANY bear sighting in the N GA mountains while hunting on the ground is a grand experience in its self!!!

So...care to share your 'Don't ya just hate it when' experiences???

(This should be fun)

When you have waited hours in your favorite stand and you start seeing deer and the land owner comes driving through the woods on his ATV to see how your hunting is going!

Don't ya just hate it when you get to the height you wanted to be be in your climber, secure the climber, adjust your safety belt and reach to pull up your bow and pack only to realize you never connected the rope to your gear?

Don't ya just hate it when you rain out at work so you plan to take advantage of your unscheduled day off so you rush to your stand to find somebody else setting in it? Long story, but he ended up hating it too!

I will play along. I hunt public land, so I hate it when I spend a substantial amount of time to find the perfect secluded spot that no one else knows about to hang a stand. Only to find on opening morning that someone else found the same place only 40 yards away! I wish people would look around for other stands before they place there's. Mine are always up the first day the state allows. I don't get it      :dunno: . Yep Mike I've had that happen also!

Don't you just hate it when you get to your hunting area and realize you forgot to put your bow in the truck.  Yep, did that.
PS. Terry, I responded to your email a while back, never heard back from you. Probably went to your junk mail.

Don't you just hate it when you go to lower your bow from your stand and realize as your bow is falling that you didn't do a very good job of attaching the rope.  Yep, did that too.

My best one isn't mine.
My friend bought eighty acres and was looking forward to being in the stand opening morning before light.

As he sat there, he noticed a intense red glow bouncing along the trail he had come in on.  In a few minutes, he heard voices.  Here came his uncle and his dad smoking a cigar chatting away.  When they saw him in the tree, they inquired in a normal voice "have you seen anything yet?".

Oh man, I was 100 yards away and watched a 6x Rosey bull walk within 10 yards of the tree stand I "should" have been sitting in if I would have arrived a half hour earlier.

.... You spend all your free time filling feeders, planting food plots, hanging stands, maintaining blinds and the land owner just ups and decides to let his nephews hunt the property! ( can't really complain to much, it's free)
Or..... When you spend months and months hunting one particular BIG hog with close calls but no shots and then your wife or brother goes and shoots it with a rifle!
Yea, I'm not telling them about any more "big" hogs I find! Lol

Don't you just hate when you get to your truck, pack all your gear in the backseat, hop in and pull out on to the highway only to hear something rumble across the top of the cab about the time you hit 50. Then look into the mirror just in time to see your bow sliding down the road because around 50mph is the speed required to blow your bow off the top of your pickup if you forget to put it inside.

Yep did that to a new Northern Mist Classic a few year back.

Don't you hate it when you are sitting in a stand in deep south Texas, waiting for a hog, when 3 rough looking men of Hispanic descent walk by, all carrying loaded down packs, and one of them picks up your arrow that is 20 yards from your stand and looks around to see where it came from. Didn't happen to me, but to my good friend when we were hog hunting along the border. His well concealed blind kept him safe, but he about had to change his shorts.

Don't you just hate it when you figure out your toilet paper ziplock has been punctured on accident and got wet on a previous hunt but has since dried out into one SOLID blob.  Man when nature calls and says, "Ready or not, HERE I COME!!!!" and your out of ammo it puts you in a bad place.

Don't you just hate it when you have been chomping at the bit for weeks waiting for the hunting season opening to come, you have got all your hunting and camping gear packed, driven the 3-1/2 hours to your favorite hunting camp site, set up the camp, cut a nice lot of firewood, got the fire going, cooked a great feed and you are just settling down to a little nightcap with your feet up by the fire, watching the sun set and really looking forward to the morning.......and then you remember you didn't buy your game license/tags.

Yep, done that ....... once.

When it's perfect time but you try to get just a sip of water from a bottle inside you backpack that is hanging behind you. 5 minutes later with most of your backpack contents balancing on tree branches you find the bottle. After returning everything to the pack you can't get one of the darn zippers to close even a little bit.
Then you gotta pee.

Don't ya just hate it when you park the truck, unload your 4 wheeler, gather your gear, ride back a logging road, stash the 4 wheeler, bait your bear crib, climb into your stand only to find out you left your arrows at the truck....

yep, did that one on an Ontario bear hunt!

Dont you hate when, for whatever reason, you sleep through your alarm and wake up after daylight, about 2 hours too late, for an early start of hunting.

Im up at 5am for work, so it happens a couple times a year on my days off. That extra sleep is nice, but you kick yourself when it happens.

When you've scouted and put up blinds for antelope. Drop off your friend and his son. As you are walking (in the dark still) to your blind you realize you left your license in your fanny pack back at camp!

Had to sit opening morning out in the truck....oh, after buy friend's son shot his buck they walked by my unoccupied blind!

(Oh, boy, this could be a long thread...I've got too many.)

When you check your trail camera and find a pic of a huge buck at 0959. Then a pic of the same buck running back the way he came at 1000. Then a pic of you pulling the card at 1001.....happened to me two years ago. Right behind my stand.

I can think of several, lol.

Don't ya hate it when...

Someone let's the dog out, and he scent trails you for a mile at a half trot in like 5 minutes, following your exact trail the whole way, circles your stand, smells the tree, and looks right up at you and starts waging his tail???? Usually about 7:30 am of course. That's happened several times!

When you leave a deer over night before tracking during a cold, clear night and when you get up there's 3" of fresh snow covering everything. When you pull into your spot to find said snow covering your pack and bow that was left leaning on the back of the Jeep the evening before, then proceed to break off a side mirror trying to load said deer on top alone...

when you drove 127 miles and realize you remembered everything except your bow..

how about drove 70 miles and noticed you have only stump arrows because you went stumping the day before with your hunting bow and wife distracted you when you got home so you forgot to change em back.

I keep toilet paper in all my hunting pants in the back pocket,, well when nature calls I have to remember to replenish that supply back at the truck and well I really hate it when I forget.

but so far this season my only "hate it when" moment was forgetting to bring something warm like a vest or sweater for the chilly morning and forgetting to move all the sticks and crunchy stuff from my approach trail to my stand, crunch, snap, crunch all the way in!

When you drive 70 miles to hunt and realize your quiver is home. Your hunting buddy loans you an arrow and you pass a good buck at 20 yards because you've never shot the arrow and don't want to take a chance on wounding the buck.

That sent me back to bow quivers.

...When you start using non-snapping nocks on your arrows just because you found a bunch free somewhere, and then when shooting, you accidentally slip the nock off the string when drawing, and then you have a dry-fire, and it ends up with the top limb on your $1300 bow blowing up...

When you pull into your usual parking area, see an unknown car, then start remembering all the stories of the meth heads that use the area for their habit. In your state of unrest you gather "all" your gear and after sneaking to your spot you see a nice set of horns bedded 40 yds. ahead. You reach back to grab an arrow and then realize you left your quiver in your vehicle.

I scouted a hollow that looked promising, I was in long before daylight(public land). I had a deer under me all morning and as it broke daylight, it was a big bodied buck. He wasn't giving me a shot so I figured, I have all day, why rush. All of the sudden, the buck gets tense and jumps into the thick stuff. Some hunter came in long after daylight, sat at the top of the hollow I was in and rattled for 45 minutes, packed up and left

Last year I had 133 acres of private land "all to myself", and showed up early to hunt.  On my way to the stand, I heard a truck drive in and park right next to mine.  It was some guy the landowner had allowed to hunt, but I hadn't been notified.  He wanted to hunt the place I was going, so I chose a different spot.  An hour later I ended up helping him drag a huge buck out.  Don't you just hate that...

Don't ya just hate it when you drop your thermacell out of the tree and break it into a dozen pieces, then proceed to get EAT UP by every biting critter in the woods for the next three hours.

Don't ya just hate it when you leave your Copenhagen in your other britches.

Don't you just hate it when you shoot a judo to get dialed in from your stand, and hike all the way back to the truck before you remember that you forgot to pick it up.

All examples from this last weekend. Great thread!!   :goldtooth:

I  hated it when....

Around 1984. I was driving my truck with buddy inside. Another pair of friends were following.  It was 90 minutes before dawn.  At a stoplight on the edge of town I decided to get out and do a Chinese fire drill (run around my truck).  Just to make sure everyone was awake!

My favorite warm sweatshirt had been around my waist.  Fell off in the highway half-way around my dash around the truck?

Good thing car jackings hadn't been "invented" yet or my following buddies might have run me over.

Don't you just hate it when----you have to leave your stand early, you have just lowered everything to the ground except your bow-and a studly 10 pointer walks in front of you and proceeds to feed on acorns for 20 minutes at less than 10 yards, giving you every conceivable shot opportunity.  I debated about unstringing my longbow and using it as a spear.

Or when you see a big really big buck antelope bedded next to a small cut at the top of a hill a perfect set up, and you crawl right up on him and he is facing opposite of you and you slowly stand for the shot and you cant believe he isn't instantly running and then you make the big Finley Flinch and miss by 2 feet . Cursing and kicking walk the mile back to the truck get in and then realize you have left your fanny pack in that small cut on top off the hill a mile away !!!!

Don't you just hate it when you shoot your first whitetail with a longbow. Take a few hero photos and have a silent celebration as a solo hunter. Then carry stand, pack, bow and whitetail back to the truck. Load up the deer, stand and bow and head for the house only to arrive and realize your pack is missing because you left it sitting beside the truck on the side of the road. Race the 30 minute drive back only to find that your pack is gone and likely your phone, camera, gps and more ended up in a pawn shop or ****. Happened to me several years ago.

You're running late and in a rush to get in the tree before first light. You go to load your pack with your tree stand, climbing sticks and climbing gear in the back of your truck and realize you left your keys in the tent and can't open the hatch. Run back into the tent, grab your keys and run out, jump in the truck and back over all of the mentioned above.
